Support for Icelandic encodings

The undersigned Icelandic Mac OS X users and Icelandic Macintosh User Group ask Apple to increase the support for Icelandic legacy encodings and regional information in the upcoming release of Mac OS X. Only offering support for Icelandic through Unicode is hindering us from using common applications such as Microsoft Office without third party OS additions.

The only acceptable solution to this problem would be the addition of a proper Icelandic support within the system itself or a freely available software addition.

Proper support for Icelandic would increase the acceptance of Mac OS X in Iceland, a country with a sizeable Macintosh market share. Also without a proper support for Icelandic, Macs will be ousted from the extremely large educational market. Please note that many secondary schools in Iceland require laptops.

Currently the biggest hurdle for the creative market is the lack of legacy support which has hindered the transit to Mac OS X.

This petition will be mailed (in e format) to Apple inc. If you support our efforts to increase the support for Icelandic legacy encodings and regional information in the upcoming release of Mac OS X, please add your signature below.
