On August 17, Painters Union (IUPAT) Local 10 in Portland, OR, passed a resolution calling for the building of a "class struggle workers party". This call is especially important today, when the corporate mouthpiece Hillary Clinton, and the racist demagogue Donald Trump are presented as the only viable options for president. No matter which of these is elected, workers and youth will need to fight the coming attacks. To do this, we will need a political party of working class people, one which will unite, organize and mobilize all working class people to fight for our interests. That's why we should help spread the word of this call of Local 10 and take the first concrete steps in that direction. Please sign and help pass around this message of support, which will be sent to Local 10.

I have been reading through the comments and honestly it is overwhelming to see so many people realize we need something besides the same old options. It feels like the air is shifting because folks are finally talking about organizing for themselves instead of just waiting for the next political circus to finish.

I have brought this up in the western NY labor today fb page. This goes back to brother Eugene Debs.
Supporting a capitalist party like the Democrats is like asking the capitalist lobbyists to work for us in their spare time. It's like asking the boss to negotiate your contract with the boss.
The main enemy of the working class is the capitalist class. Mobilize workers to oust the pro-capitalist union bureaucrats with a class struggle leadership. No reliance on the capitalist courts! For a class struggle workers party!
I thank the members and leadership of IUPAT Local 10 for their courage in passing this resolution. I hope it will be followed up by further actions to take this petition far and wide in the labor movement and all social movements, here and abroad. I am a retired industrial electrian and former president of my AFSCME Local 444 based in Oakland, California. During all my years of union activity I fought for exactly this kind of action to be taken by our local and the international labor movement. I hope this petition goes a long way towards this critical-and life and death matter really-in forming a fighting, independent and working class based movement and party in the United States.
Workers need our own party that fights for a workers government the expropriates the capitalist class, organizes workers democratic control of the economy and ends imperialism and oppession
Working people need a party of their own!

I think that the painters local 10 statement should be supported and popularized and this is a very practical way of attempting to do this.
