The petition

Dear students, teachers, and other staff of IBS,

As you may well be aware, IBS intends to not have a graduation ceremony this academic year for the February Graduates. The reasoning they say is to cut back on expenditures. The Hanze has forced all schools to cut their budgets, however that should not affect our graduation ceremony! The ceremony is an integral part of the IBS experience! Didn’t we all dream of throwing those caps in the air when we first started studying at IBS?! Well, apparently IBS wants us to keep on dreaming!

A response of IBS is that we can come to the graduation ceremony in July! But IBS can't simply ask us to come back in July for the ceremony, as many of us will be abroad by then! IBS trains us to become international, so IBS can’t expect us to hang around half a year for the graduation ceremony! IBS was already complaining that the ceremony was too big last July, now they want to have an even larger group!?

This is not a matter of money or of logistics; this is a matter of justice! Don’t all IBS graduates deserve to be sent out into the world with a worthy ceremony?! Moreover, if we can let this happen now, then next year February there also will not be a ceremony! And what will happen after that? No graduation ceremony at all anymore?

Please, if you feel that it would be unjust to not have a graduation ceremony in February, then show your support and sign the petition!

Thank you on behalf of all IBS February 2010 Graduates!
