The Port of Hood River, in conjunction with developers, are seeking to develop the Hood River Waterfront into a commercial office park with limited public waterfront access. The development plan also threatens to create a wind shadow at the Event Site beach, one of the prime windsurfing destinations in North America.
This petition will be sent to the Planning Commision, the Port of Hood River, the Hood River City Council, the Hood River News and the CG Weekly, by August 9th, 2004 regarding the development of the Hood River, Oregon Waterfront:
This petition parimarily advocates for:
--> 45 ft height restrictions for all Hood River buildings.
--> Setbacks to provide public access
Protection of wind and view corridor.
--> Support of tax increment financing for park space.
Direct testimony to key issues we want the Planning Commission to consider:

Encouraging and Maintaining Citizen Involvement.
Using the Land use planning process and framework for ALL Decisions. Conserving and protecting resources, improving the economy and satisfying recreational outdoors needs.
To conserver and protect open space, scenic and historical areas and natural resources. Provide buffers between different types of land uses, promote a visually attractive environment while preserving significant natural and historic resources.
To satisfy recreation needs of the citizens of the community and visitors to the area. Existing park sites will be protected from incompatible uses and future expansion.
To promote walking and bike paths. ( 7). Because of the growth of the windsurfing industry and other recreational activities, a significant portion of H.R. recreation facilities may be allowed in an appropriate location.
Improve and promote the Hood River economy and tourism industries to accommodate for the need for expansion of new and existing businesses and encourage family wage jobs.
Economic development that is consistent with long term human and natural resources. Provide public facilities for anticipated economic growth. Preserve and promote a livable community.
Promote a balanced transportation system, to include biking and walking paths and multi-modal access. |
