The Tulsa World, Tulsa’s only comprehensive newspaper, has perceived some liability surrounding printing homebirth announcements. I am attempting to change this policy by urging the agencies that certify and endorse midwives to contact the Tulsa World and assure them of their authenticity.
I created this petition so that you, the home birthing Mother, the home birthed Child, the Doula, the Certified Professional or Certified Nurse Midwife, the Obstetrician/Gynecologist, the Pediatrician, the Nutritionist, the Chiropractor, and the average thinking adult, may lend their voices to mine in making a positive change for the greater good.
We, the undersigned, are committed citizens who urge the Tulsa World, World Publishing Company, and its Chairman and CEO, Robert E. Lorton, to act now to alter the current policy and print, free of charge, birth announcements for all babies born at home in the presence of a certified professional midwife.
Please, Robert E. Lorton & the legal staff at World Publishing Company, reconsider and let these thoughtful, educated parents enjoy the same rights as those delivering in a hospital. Homebirth is becoming more and more popular each year, and your current policy does not reflect the times or the community you are serving.
This petition will be sent on 12/31/2005 to:
