Ann Earline JohnsonDo not remove these statues. They are not a threat to any race, just a reminder of times past.
Debra HunterI feel that the removal of these statues is wrong. You can't change history no matter what you do. These are part of American & Texas history. Leave them alone. People need to grow up and realize this and wuit acting like babies. They are no different than celebrating MLK or any other historical person. If you remove these statues then do away will ALL celebrations like President's day and President's birthdays and MLK day and so on and so on. Get real and respect those that fought for YOUR right to free speech and FREEDOM to pretty much do as YOU wish.
Sigur LassiterI see no reason to take down these statues or rewrite history. Unless someone would like to return to a history that tells the entire story good or bad and not designed to benefit one group or segment of citizens, the young people of today will never know the true history of their state and country. Leave it alone or tell it correctly.
larry yeatmanPlease honor history and these great men in American and Texas history by leaving their statues where they are. These men were revered in the State of Texas as heroes. Now yankee lies and myths are trying to destroy these men's reputations. The NAACP should be allowed to put up statues to their heroes like Martin Luther King, but they should not be allowed to remove other people's heros. Also of course, the NAACP forgets to teach about all the free black Confederates who fought for their Southern homeland. They also forget to teach that the US Flag flew over slavery for 90 years, and that the US flag did not get rid of slavery until 1866, one full year after the war. So if symbols can really offend them, they need to decry the US flag equally if not more than Conf. symbols
farrell duttonthe naacp supports only black criminal rights.why don't they tell the whole truth about the selma orgy and mlk's adultry.
Delores HaasGet real and honor our history!
Kenny GilbertDo not remove the statues.1) This courtyard is a part of your school's history do not rewrite it. 2)If your university wants to please the NAACP I suppose you could put up new statues.3)The NAACP always wants more. ie;Confederate widow pention plaques on Tx justice building taken down,NAACP wants more things gone.
CharleygoodnightDo not remove the statues. A Texas University should stick by it's guns.
Hal FlemingStop this "political correctness" nonsense now. Those "heroes" of the past that I admire have as much right to be displayed as anyone else's. After all, Texas was one of the states that suceeded and joined the Confederacy, and sent many of it's sons to war to stand up for their' states rights. Mr. Lincoln was the one that "bent" all of the rules and started a war upon a new nation that had no intention of starting a war with the Union.
john shinkleleave history alone do not try to change it . those statues were put there for a purpose many years ago
JIM BECKNER
Alfred N. MontestrucPlease stop the censorship of history. History should be many voices, not a monolog. If the NAACP thinks the history is wrong, have them put up their own monuments books and so on, not tear down those of others.
Major John P. Yeatman, USAFRWe can not change the history of our nation. Texas was part of the CSA and these fine men served honorable. General Lee was also an officer in the United States Army and a graduate of West Point. He is one the finest officers ever produced by the US Military Academy. Don't pander to special intrest groupd who want to erase the history of our nation. The NAACP get to celebrate black history month and I do not protest their rights as citizens of our nation. But do not tread on my rights to my history. Many men have given their lives in all wars for our freedom. Do not dishonor their sacrifice, perserve our American history. If you cave, they may someday find a reason to protest the fathers of Texas; Houston, Austin, and the heros of the Alamo. Where does it end?
John FordAs a foreigner, I would consider it a shame were Texas to proceed with erasing her history. The statues should remain where they are.
Nancy TrotterThis is the crazest thing i have heard of removing a statue won't change that the Civil War took place Nancy Trotter

Wayne HendonI am appalled at the prospect of removing the statues. We CANNOT revise history!
Gerald KellerThis is comical, that the NAACP thinks evrything to do with the South from the old days means racism. Not everything means racism, these statues mean honoring your ancestors.
Phyllis HendonPlease do not remove any of our country's heritage. Why let the voices of a few speak for the majority?
Pat HolmesTexans must preserve our southern heritage.
John S Pigott
Evelyn C Pigott (pie)
M BlalockI find this action to be counterproductive, especially in light of current situations--poverty, education, &c--that I feel are far more worthy of attention and focus. The past cannot be changed for good or ill; at most, we can only hope to learn from it and improve ourselves as a nation in the here and now.
Cayden HendonThe statues are simply to honor our ancestors, they are not meant to be offensive!
Geraldine MassingillI agree the statues should stay. Removing them won't change the past. TheNAACP is just looking for ways to stir up trouble.
Jackie BoggsThey were put there as a reminder of our history. Leave our history alone.
Julie HendonThese statues of honorable men represent a part of Texas' proud history. I suggest that if other factions (i.e. NAACP) wish to have some symbolic and pertinent representation of Texas/USA on campus as well, then a prosposal needs to be made.
David ChafinWhen will people come to their senses and realize that the past is the past, but, we must remember?
Janet RussellPlease honor our Texas heroes and keep their memory alive. Keep the statues.
AnonymousHIstory is history and must be know by all. It will not be a complete picture to pretend they too did not have an important Role. Example: Lee did not only fight in a war he also returned to Richmond as a paroled prisoner of war, and submitted with the utmost composure to an altered destiny. He devoted the rest of his life to setting an example of conduct for other thousands of ex-Confederates. He refused a number of offers which would have secured substantial means for his family. Instead, he assumed the presidency of Washington College. The men are a big part of what made us what we are and should be remember for the entire story, we all must learn from it.
AnonymousNO to the NAACP and their stuff....
Rich CasteelMr. President, According to history, the great state of Texas has stood for honesty and sacrifice. "Remember The Alamo" is not just a phrase. These three words are invested to Americans in a military combat situation in the past five wars. Removal of one statue of two American military figureheads is just not prudent on your part. You Sir, can not alter the past of our great Union. The NAACP is another of the numerous ploys by which history in this country is being removed at an alarming rate. Take one step forward and forego your committee and live with the simple fact the past is the past and can not be altered. Respectfully Yours, Rich Casteel U.S. Army 1966 - 1969 Vietnam Veteran of 1967 First Logistics Command - Vietnam
Jack MimmsLeave the statues. Remove those who are trying to remove the statues. Enough is enough of this nonsense.
Rhonda Carlisle
AnonymousThe NAACP does not speak for every American so it's interest lies within one group or culture. To diminish one culture (white ancestery) and celetrate another (black ancestery) is only diminishing our entire country and pits us against one another even today. We can be proud or saddened by our ancestors but we cannot change the past. Let's learn from it and embrace our future and change the tone of America from one of litigation to one of resilience and community. The statues should stand where they are.
Valjean FountainIt is a sad day in this country (and particularly in this state) when political correctness determines which statues of historical figures should be removed from The University of Texas campus! Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis supported what they considered as their country--the Confederate States of America. They were as patriotic in their actions during the Civil War as George Washington and other Americans were when they rose up against England during the Revolutionary War. Please leave the statues alone!
Dwayne WebbIs there not something else of more importance that should be addressed?
AnonymousSave the statues!!!
William BarrI received two academic degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. The statues are gifts to the University, as is Littlefield Fountain, likewise a tribute to Dixie and her people. The University is contemplating an act of boorish ingratitude unparalled in its hstory, an act fueled out of a truly evil passion. It's all too clear who the solipsistic bores in Austin want to see dispossessed, and their attempt at a Soviet-style cultural purge forms only the opening salvo of these rapacious curs.
Albert Engel
Patrick PeltierDo not remove these statues. These statues represent a part of our history that can not be changed. Stand up for Texas History. Do not cave in.
Thomas PeltierDon't you dare remove those statues! I've raised my children to understand and learn from history. Remove those statues and I'll assure you my children will never attend U.T.
Roger D. JonesLeave the damn staues alone. I've had enough of these liberal, pacifist trying to change history to save someone's feelings. It's part of life, GET OVER IT!
M. JonesThe only people who want these removed are the IGNORANT bigots who don't know doodly squat about the Confederacy or the War For Southern Independence. And they don't want to learn the truth. They prefer to wallow in their ignorance and try to force others to do the same
Terri KurtinRobert E. Lee and Jeff Davis are Texas historical figures. These statues are a reminder of the great sacrifices made in our past.
Angela OrlandoMr. President, maybe you are the one who needs to go but definitely not our precious and honored heritage represented by those statues. We are who we are and that is history. The NAACP goes around looking for weak, vulnable people to intimidate. Please listen to the people of Texas and leave our statues. Thank you.
L SchaeferSave the Statues. Intolerance on the part of anyone, including minorities, is reprehensible. There's more to these men than an affiliation with the Confederacy, just as there is more to MLK than adultery. Leave history alone.
preston thomasKeep the statues. Two finer men have not existed since Christ.
Olli Nylander
Eric SmithI had ANCESTORS that fought in the Civil War and for its cause. The Civil War was NOT about slavery primarily, it was over STATE RIGHTS. Yes, slavery was terrible and it destroyed families. But realise this, many southerners were too poor to own slaves, and they STILL fought for the South! To take down these statues would be a disgrace to anyone who is proud of their southern heritage, or who had ancestors that fought in such a terrible, but noble affair.
