| 101 | Gary L. Honeycutt | It is a sad day when a small group of people can dictate their point of view to a whole country. Sounds more like Nazi Germany then the USA. |
| 102 | Angel Arteaga | It isn't racist |
| 103 | Bodi Mayo | This is indeed a sad thing. If the statues were honoring M.L. King, Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, or any other Black historical figure, it wouldn't be an issue. The issue would be if we, as Euro-Americans decided that we didn't want that kind of statuary on a campus, because then *we* would be the racists.
However, these people get to run around unchecked, protesting anything, from statues to school names, and no one does a thing. NAACP...how is this working towards the advancement of Colored People? Is the point of this organization to erase all vestiges of Euro-American culture, thereby assuring themselves of #1 cultural importance in the United States? That certainly is the impression they give.
My Fellow Euro-Americans, we need to wake up! This is the kind of cultural nickle-and dime crap that people like this are going to continue to perpetrate until there are no more vestiges of Euro-American culture left in the United States. STAND UP FOR YOURSELVES AND YOUR ANCESTORS. This isn't about hatred, bigotry, or racism, this is about Southern/Texan Euro-Americans being able to revere and honor their ancestors who contributed not only to the founding of this country, but to it's continued existence.
Does that mean that no other race of people contributed, or that their contributions aren't as important? NO! The question of the moment is, rather, why Euro-American expressions of ancestral heritage are attacked in such a manner, but everything else is off limits to the same?
Grow up, NAACP. Your agenda is every bit as racist as you claim we all are against you, so just drop it already. |
| 104 | Anonymous | Save the history and heritage, because it's important for the future. |
| 105 | Adam L. Jennings | I think peole should be ashamed of themselves trying to erase history like some do. Bunch of liberal culture haters is what they are. There is a special place in the after life for cowards such as these. Hope the statues stay. |
| 106 | Judy Floyd | The referenced statues do not depict slavery or racism. They are historical figures not fictious and therefore to remove them is simply a way to rewrite history in such a manner that is more politically correct. If history is rewritten then the same mistakes will be repeated. This is a not only a great disservice to us that are now living, but also to those that come after us.
There were many honorable men that fought and died on both sides of the civil war. Each believed that their side was right. They fought not necessarily to own slaves but rather to protect their families, their lives, their homes.
To attempt to erase thes men from history is a horrific idea, one that we would all come to regret. Please do not make that mistake. |
| 107 | Frederick Ufford | I UNDERSTAND HOW BATTLE FLAGS ARE AN OFFENSIVE THING TO OUR AFRICAN AMERICAN CITIZENS. I THINK WITH REMOVING STATUES OF MEN GONE LONG AGO THAT ARE NOT THERE TO GLORIFY ANY EVIL INSTITUTION IS JUST CREATING AND UNNEEDED DIVISION. I THINK A BETTER WAY TO HELP WOULD BE FOR CLEAR MINDS TO HAVE A COMING TOGETHER TO DISCUSS AND HELP EACH OTHER UNDERSTAND FEELINGS ON THE ISSUE. |
| 108 | G.S.P | We have already lost to much of our history because someone has had their feelings hurt over it or because it is "racsist". No more! I dont live in Texas but you have my support. |
| 109 | Sarah Middlemast | Southern history has certainly taken a beating. Are we no longer interested in presenting a complete view of US history and pander to the PC crowd so that people aren't offended by the truth? Ridiculous. |
| 110 | Chris Grimes | I am getting more than tired of Politically Correct losers as I think is the rest of the country, that just want to re write history, and change our culture.
GET A LIFE ALREADY IT IS JUST A FLAG!!!! It never hurt anyone, and anyone living today WAS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR OPPRESSING ANYONE. GET OVER IT!!! |
| 111 | Tishia A. Tedder | It is important for all of us to remember our history less it be forgotten. If the Afro-American community truly wishes to promote equality for their people, then they should leave reminders of the ways that things once were so that they will never be forgotten. To forget the past is to relive it. If they wish these things to happen again, by all means remove all traces that anything bad ever happened to them at all. |
| 112 | Daniel D. Tedder | This is only another attempt by the voices in power to blur racial boundries by demonizing cultural and political icons of the past. |
| 113 | Robert Scott Gartin | Please Never remove our heritage. These are not racist icons. These men and all good Southerners loved the colored races. Lets keep it that way. |
| 114 | Daniel Carr De Muzio | No country has been more successful in erasing its history. History should be used to avoid erros in the future, not to push divisive and hateful agendas.
Statues are history. Let them stand! |
| 115 | Patrick B. O'Neal | Please continue to honor our history--all of it! |
| 116 | Jim Pierce | Let them stand for all time as a reminder of what
had to be done and of those who did it. |
| 117 | Terry Crayton | Is is a shame that Texas would even consider such an act. Those who scream and demand diversity have no problem in perpertrating censorship and discrimination against those with whom they disagree. It is the liberals who preach hated and discrimination. Keep the Confederate statues and fire the UT president. Do not contribute to the university nor support their ball teams. Hitting a liberal bigot in the pocketbook usually gets his attention. |

| 119 | Anonymous | SAVE THE STATUES |
| 120 | James Daivs | The statues of Lee and Davis are not stopping anyone from getting an education at the university nor a job when the graduate. |
| 121 | David Walker | Ok, its not to the 90's anymore... being PC should have died out like any other insane fad... |
| 122 | J. Blalock | The complaint of the NAACP is petty and ignorant; if they truly believed in ending racism, they would not embrace it themselves as a core value. |
| 123 | Anonymous | Why take down statues of dead people. Would that not be considered imoral! |
| 124 | Michael A. Mull | |
| 125 | Bill Caynor | Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis were not only southerner’s but American’s who helped to create this great nation. Davis assisted with the building of the capital dome when he was the U.S. Secretary of War and was a senator for two terms. Lee had two relatives who signed the Declaration of Independence and was a United States army veteran of thirty years. His father was George Washington’s cavalry commander in the Revolutionary War and Lee married Washington’s grand daughter. Both of these men fought for the United States in the Mexican War defeating Mexico in the name of western expansion. These men were true America’s before and after the Civil War and endured great sacrifice for a belief in state sovereignty not a belief in slavery.
You cannot erase history in this generation by merely removing all traces of southern culture and history but you will erase it from the next by doing so. If we are to remember George Washington, Patrick Henry and countless others why do we not recognize these distinguished men for their life commitments and contributions to what most take for granted today.
We must always remember and never forget what so many have given their lives for. In the name of all that is just and true, please do not remove the statutes of these men or buckle to the tyranny of groups seeking a personal agenda. Deo Vindice |
| 126 | Jacob L. Bateman III | These statutes represent men, who had the same ideals as the founding fathers, and deserved to be honored by keeping their statutes right where they are. These were men of Impecable Stirling Character, and Christian Beliefs. And were faithful to God, and their families especially their wives. |
| 127 | Duncan Taylor Black | Each of us should contact our legislators to remind them of the University's narrow view when their budget is being discussed. |
| 128 | Rob Cox | It would be better if the people of Texas removed the President of the University who by his actions has shown such animosity towards the history of the people of the Great State of Texas. |
| 129 | Mark A. Thomey | They eyes of Texas are upon you. Do the right thing.... keep the statues of Davis and Lee.
God Save the South! [> |
| 130 | Matthew Porcelli | There is no reason to move those statues. They represent great men who fought to save the rights of southerners. Respect for the truth should come before political correctness. And as far as the NAACP is concerned they should learn from HK Edgerton. |

| 134 | elizabeth a. brown | This is a horrible thing that is happening in our country. Why do these great men get such a bad rap? They fought for freedom not the enslavement of others. |

| 138 | David | |
| 139 | Dwain Bobbitt | |
| 140 | Lonnie Collins | The drive to strip southerners of their heritage has got to stop... The idea of PC has gone to far, not to mention haywire... |
| 141 | Samuel D. Hatcher | Please keep all statutes, these are part of the history of not only of Texas but of the United States. |
| 142 | Priscilla Squires | Honorable men should always be revered. Keep the statues. |
| 143 | Samuel D. Hatcher | Please keep all statutes, these are part of the history of not only of Texas but of the United States. |
| 144 | Anonymous | LEAVE MY CONFEDERATE HERITAGE ALONE! THE VERY IDEA OF SUCH A THING SHOWS THAT THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS IN AUSTIN IS NOT TEACHING HISTORY! |
| 145 | Anonymous | Why is it that everyone's hertiage is important but the southerner? The people who are demanding that all symbols of our history be destroyed would be up in arms at the suggestion of the removal of anything that they hold dear. Is this diversity. |
| 146 | JC Fulton | Let's preserve our Southern Heritage.... What's right is right.. God save the South... |
| 147 | B. J. Blackerby | WHY do these "statues" not enjoy protection from the federal unbrella of " historical places " ? |
| 148 | monte poitevint | That anyone would try to erase history and dishonor those who fought for a worthy and honorable cause is dispicable. That it would be done by a bunch of race mongers and agitators for no other reason than to line their pockets is pure evil! Don't give in to such crass morons! |

| 150 | Jimmy D. Reed | Stand strong against the advasarythere ore those out there who have had their way far too long. Don't take down anything Confederate, make a stans along with a statement that these people are not going to have it their way any longer. |
