Vote No To The Trademark Dilution Revision Act of 2005

In a devastating blow to small businesses everywhere, the House of Representatives passed a recent revision to HR 683, essentially allowing big box stores and retail conglomerates the ability to use copyright law in a blatant attempt to run their competition out of business without having to worry about the burden of proof.

Most small businesses remain unaware that the revised HR 683 can have a potentially deadly effect on their business. They are also unaware that the revision has been referred to the Senate for final review before being accepted as law.

Please let the US Senate know that you are aware of the current legislature before them and that you will not sit back and allow them to sap away the rights of small businesses everywhere.

The following text will be sent with this petition:

Dear Senators,

Below you will find a list of concerned constituents who believe in freedom of expression and the sanctity of small business. We are writing to voice our opposition to the Trademark Dilution Revision Act (TDRA, HR 683).

As proposed, the TDRA will change long-standing trademark law to make it easier for large companies to sue individuals and businesses for trademark dilution.

The legal and economical climate is already severely stacked in the favor of large corporations. Isn't it time that we improved conditions for small businesses, instead of making them worse?

As this bill sits poised to go before the Senate, we urge you to vote against it.
