| 212 | John Cooper | The NSPCC guidelines clearly state that you should never leave young children under 5 alone. The McCann's as doctors would have known this and the implications to children if you do.
The NSPCC guidelines also states that if you do leave your children alone and they come to harm, you may face prosecution.
Madeleine was left alone and came to harm. Enough said. |

It is just not OK to leave such young kids unattended, away from home, in an unlocked apartment. I don't know if they had a hand in her disappearance, but even if they didn't, the reality is that it probably wouldn't have happened if they'd used the free babysitting service which was offered or even had a family evening together. I totally don't agree with Branson etc contributing to their legal fund, they are in a much more fortunate position than a lot of people to defend themselves, if they need to! |

I also believe 9/11 was an inside job and Elvis works at my local kebab shop. |

| 248 | Lizzie | The reason why I find it so difficult to be sympathetic towards the MCCanns is not because they are middle-class and professional, but the way they behaved towards their daughter and later, with the media.
On a 7-day "family" holiday, they chose to leave the child(ren) in the creche for hours at a time, day and afternoon. The children ate tea, not with their parents, but with staff. They were then put to bed, early, by their parents. This pattern was confirmed by the friends holidaying with them and who shared the same sort of parenting patterns.
These were very young children, and staff said Madeleine "did not mix easily with other children". This sort of parenting is, however found acceptable by many posters who no doubt criticise the single mother on benefits who is at home with her very young children and who includes them in activities - and her life.
Madeleine was left vulnerable and alone, night after night on this foreign holiday, with only cursory checks being made - how often is unclear, owing to the inconsistent stories.
One of the children of the Tapas Seven had been ill that day and was ill that evening, to the point of vomiting, yet the parents still decided to leave her and go out - returning to make the checks and clear up the vomit. This is an indication of the level of parenting that they, as a group - which included the McCanns - seemed to find acceptable.
Emotional neglect by day, real neglect by night.
Because of the actions of the parents, Madeleine was left vulnerable to harm - by an abductor, by an accident, by her wandering outside alone and coming to harm after that.
The parents ARE culpable.
Other rich backers probably see this sort of parenting as normal and acceptable so flock to their own. Thanks to their generosity, the parents can run a highly expensive legal and PR campaign which focuses on their own "good name".
If only the McCanns had put as much energy into including their child and keeping her safe, as they do in apparently looking for her and promoting their own image. |
