The petition

A Wal-Mart Supercenter needs to be built in Calhoun County, WV because we have the highest unemployment rate in the entire state.

A few years ago, there was a toss-up between building a Wal-Mart in Spencer, WV or here in Grantsville, WV. It was decided that Spencer would benefit more from the addition of a Wal-Mart, but since they already have a movie theater, I'd say they're doing pretty good.

Grantsville desperately needs jobs, as well as the convenience of a Wal-Mart Supercenter. As it is, I have to drive 45 miles to get to the nearest Wal-Mart. A Wal-Mart Supercenter would open up at least 100 jobs for those of us in Calhoun County, making it easier to survive here. The unemployment rate is so bad here that they moved the unemployment office too far away for most of us to afford to drive there without a job. Convenient, eh?

So please sign this petition, because Calhoun County is in desperate need of reliable jobs. The only place that hires regularly is a factory that is frequently threatened to be shut down.

I, Kala Krugman Bailey, have decided that a petition for a Wal-Mart Supercenter in Calhoun County, WV might be a really good idea. I've lived here for 20 years, and in all that time I've watched the town of Grantsville slowly die as businesses close and young people move away.

This is basically a retirement community now, except most of the people who live here are on disability or welfare and therefore will never be able to retire. I'd like to see that change in my lifetime.
