I oppose $1.24 billion in state cuts to education that will lead to:
Teacher lay-offs Bigger classes Elimination of pre-kindergarten, and Much higher school property taxes
I urge you to restore the cuts and provide enough funding for school districts to maintain current education programs without unaffordable property tax hikes.
There is a better choice than cuts in education and it's not higher local property taxes. I join thousands of New Yorkers in supporting a fair state tax system that puts a surcharge on incomes of more than $100,000 and closes loopholes that allow big corporations to avoid paying New York taxes. This simple solution provides more than enough funds to maintain current educational programs and to provide full funding for the state class size reduction and universal pre-kindergarten programs. |
