END DEPORTATION and DESTITUTION NOW!
Three Iranian Kurdish men Faroq Haidari, Fariborz Gravindi and Mokhtar haydary recently spent 29 days on hunger strike in the Southside of Glasgow in protest at being refused asylum. They have been in Scotland for three years and are under threat of eviction by Glasgow City Council.
They agreed to end their strike because of the extent of the support which they received for their cause, locally and across Britain. With the help of the Campaign they intend to continue their fight for refugee status and to protest against the present asylum laws.
We the undersigned condemn the deportation of refugees facing torture and possible death and Glasgow City Council’s eviction policy. We call on the government to abandon racist policies and practices and demand that Faroq Haidari, Fariborz Gravindi, and Mokhtar Haydary are allowed to stay in Scotland.

'The case of Faroq Haidari, Farnborz Gravindi and Mokhtar Haydary must surely shock even the Government's supporters into questioning the brutal mistreatment of our fellow human beings.
The denial of basic human rights, the denial of justice, the return of some to places of danger and the imposition of destitution on others, the creation of new underclass of 'unreturnables' left to disappear from the system, all of these horrors characterise the UK Government's approach to asylum.
We must all work to support those who reach our shores in need of help, and work for a society which meets human need with human compassion.
In the mean time these three men, among Glasgow's most desperate residents, must be given leave to remain and support to recover from their ordeal.'
Patrick Harvie, Green Party Member of the Scottish Parliament |
