Now that it is valuable, something is being done. We need to care for the ideas of our free-thinkers, for they are the ones who realise that we are losing generations of children. They will never reach their own true potential, and right care for them will economically break the nation. We need to give these children every care possible. Our future as a social nation depends on it. We need to listen to the people who, unfettered by economics and unafraid to speak their minds, are capable of making ground-breaking discoveries that will put Britain in the forefront of medical research, educational and social practices and support? Why wouldn't we want to do this? |

With little information and nothing proven I only had 'mother's intuition' to guide me. My intuition told me that I should not allow my son to have the MMR vaccine. I have never regretted this decision and despite official research concluding that there is no link between MMR and autism, I have never been convinced. As the saying goes, 'The truth will out'. And I believe it will. For the sake of the children that are suffering, the sooner the better. |

When a formerly beautiful healthy baby becomes wracked with sickness, diahorrea (on a tsunami scale) and skeletally thin with a distended stomach, it is hard to believe that the medical profession can look on knowing that they played their part in reducing a healthy child - with speech - to a white faminine victim without speech. Thorough clinical trials and investigations should be carried out to explore the health and developmental causes and consequences of the catastrophic damage wrouught upon individual children (and their families). |

Still always comes as a shock to hear about the legths to which the so called establishment will go. For who are they? tThey are simply everyday people representing an organisation or body that in effect would like to silence any dissent. Above these there are people that know perfectly well what they are doing and don't care. |

| 3138 | Hilary Champion | I believe that medical researchers such as Mr Wakefield should be free to explore new, perhaps radical avenues of thought with regards health problems without feeling themselves at risk of being villified if their results and/or hunches do not accord with the Government and medical Establishment's current thinking and policies. The history of science and medicine from Galileo onwards offers countless examples of those who have risked professional suicide and persecution in order to achieve advances in medicine, and I would have hoped that today we had a more enlightened view with regards those who think unconventionally. I believe that the way Dr Andrew Wakefield has been treated is shameful. Even if his hypothesis is incorrect, he should be allowed to continue his research. The campaign of discreditation also makes me fear that in future far fewer talented, courageous, highly trained specialists like Dr Wakefield will risk their livelihoods in order to try to achieve scientific breakthroughs. |

| 3142 | Merran Sell | I agree with the above comments. I am appalled by the fact that Dr Andrew Wakefield is being made a scapegoat for the sake of the wealthy drug companies. I have heard from doctors that it is the pharmaceutical companies who control how and with what patients are treated!! As a scientist it is this closed mind attitude, I thought that scientists would have an open mind, that made me turn to homeopathy and have since qualified as a homeopath. In my practice I treat children with all sorts of problems and I am convinced that vaccinations do have an effect. Often the signs of autism appear just after they have been vaccinated.
It is outrageous that someone who had everything to lose and nothing to gain should have to go before the GMC when there are far more serious events happening in medicine and the world in general. How about being more supportive of junior doctors, a lot of doctors were not impressed with the GMC's lack of support, rather than wasting time on Dr Andrew Wakefield. Makes one wonder why you are?? |

My doctor said to me in so many words that because of what has happened to Wakefield he is too scared to help me to get my son better. My paediatrician says do nothing and couldn't care less. This treatment of my son is scandalous and common place. The few doctors that listen to us mothers and try to help our children lose their jobs or are threatened that they will. Is this a democratic society? Do we have freedom of speech? No.
