In the 1950s polio affected one in 3,000 Americans and that was a national emergency. They usually refer to it as the "polio epidemic" of the 1950s. It seems that autism hasn't earned the distinction of being called an epidemic however. We all need to realize that most of the victims of polio recovered and went on to lead productive lives. The same won't be said about the victims of autism. Hundreds of thousands of young adults will be going on disability for life with autism.
The undeniable fact out there is that as the number of mercury-containing vaccines in the childhood schedule was dramatically increased, autism went from one in 10,000 in the 1970s, to one in 2,500 in the 80s, to one in every 150 children today. |

I told him there was nothing: the waters were now so muddy. When you put people on trial to resolve a scientific dispute you have already lost the moral initiative.
This process should be illegal even if by any chance it is not. It was launched as Lancet editor Richard Horton witnessed in constructive way without any idea what the charges were to be. Even at this late stage it should be called off. |
