Freedom Of Kink

To: UK Government
On March 31st 2003, Graham Coutts murdered Jane Longhurst in a sick sexual fantasy, in the United Kingdom.

Recently, and quite understandably, Jane's mother Liz launched a campaign to try and ban the kind of sites Graham Coutts visited. She was quoted as saying the following, taken from the BBC News website:

Mrs Longhurst, 72, fought back tears, saying: "I feel pressure should be brought to bear on internet service providers to close down or filter out these pornographic sites, so that people like Jane's killer may no longer feed their sick imaginations and do harm to others."

Whilst it is realised that the death of Jane Longhurst is indeed a tragic and barbaric one, we find the concept of the event of such a law being passed incredibly disturbing.

As it stands now, David Blunkett is currently visiting Washington in a bid to convince the United States Of America to act with the United Kingdom against violent porn sites.

Why do we find this so disturbing? You might well ask....
It is not because we're monsters.
It is not because we're sickos.
It's not even because we think it's funny.
In fact we too are totally horrified that such a thing has happened.
It is because people like us - consensual kinky people are being lumped into the same boat as Graham Coutts, and as a result of his actions we may suffer losses of freedom of the adult sites we visit daily.

We are the BDSM community that could face internet shutdown if such a law is passed. We do not go around mercilessly killing people. We do not do anything without consent and safety. We are careful. Many of us are trained medical professionals and members of law enforcement in fact. [You would be surprised at the amount of people in fact that are!!]

We are nice, friendly loving people with a lot of respect for each other. In fact, it takes a LOT of trust and respect to embark on the types of relationships that those into BDSM can form.

By signing this petition I support the "Freedom Of Kink" campaign to retain our internet freedoms that we so luckily have, and furthermore state that I am *not* of the same mindset as Graham Coutts. I also state that I am pleased that Graham Coutts has been brought to justice, and that I am deeply sorry that such a tragedy has occurred.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
