1 hour FREE parking in Llangefni

Llangefni is a small market town on the Island of Anglesey. The center of town is a one way system, with toll free parking spaces along one side that are toll free for up to 40mins, ideal for all those shoppers who just want to pop into town quickly. Unfortunatly on 20 Feb 2006 the local council started major road works, which involve closing part of the one way system blocking most of the free parking and diverting the traffic out of the town center. The works are due to last 22 weeks, over the busiest period of the year.

The parking situation has not just affected the shops of the closed section of road, but other shops have also noticed a drop in trade and we beleive it is because people can not find toll free parking spaces, people do not want to pay for one hours parking in the council carpark just to pop in to town.

I also have to say that the works being done on the road are purely asthetic, paving and tree planting. Work that could have waited untill a quieter time of year, and could be undertaken in no more than 8 weeks. There are only ever 4 men at work and they take days off when it rains.

We therefore request Anglesey County Council to allow 1 hours FREE parking in the towns council carparks while they are disrupting the center of town, so that we can try to encourage those quicky shoppers back into Llangefni and save our businesses.

This petition will be mailed (in snail and e format) to Anglesey County Council by 31/05/2006. If you support our efforts to get one hours FREE parking for shoppers, please add your signature below.
