harry harpham | its a disgrace that Sheffielders are the only ones in South Yorkshire being denied this opportunity for free swimming

Kate D | Its a travesty that in South Yorkshire it is only Sheffield residents thats are being denied free swimming. How can the Lib Dem council justify this?
Michael Pye | The Government The Lib-Dem response to this is pure sham. They can find the little amount of extra money required by using some of the £2.4 million given to tehm by the NHS for services to older Pepole. The Labour Government had allocated £152,600 to Sheffield the 3rd largest amount of money in the Country.

viv nicholson | Surely this is a heaslth issue - at a time when young people are suffering from obesity and where not just the physical but also the mental health of older people is a concern. this would be of great value. Why only Sheffield in the whole region cannot accept, I do not know.

Elizabeth Underwood | Sheffield is not a wealthy or healthy city; that is why this decision by the Liberal Democrats to turn down an offer from government which would support younger and older citizens in becoming more active makes no sense. Swimming is acknowledged to be one of the most effective all-round sports there is and unlike many less democratic sports, it requires only a swim suit or swimming trunks to participate. I urge the council to consider the likely impact on the local economy at a time of threatened recession if younger and older citizens with time on their hands choose to travel to Rotherham, Doncaster or Barnsley to swim there.

Dave Jefferies | Facilities to keep people healthy are very important. With a grant towards the costs the Lib Dems have no excuse.

janet Bragg | I believe that swimmimng is a excellent exercise for all ages and it should be free to those of a non working age.
Ray Satur | If Sheffield Council is commited to improving the general health of its citizens, fighting child and adult obesity then a small contribution to the governments swimming initiative is vital and worthwhile.

Peter Price | This would have been an ideal way of encouraging and helping old people to remain active. What a missed opportunity to use government money to help us in tackle inequalities in health. I am afraid the Lib/Dems are using old people for political motives
