The petition
For the reasons outlined below, we the undersigned residents of the Flower Hill North community request that the speed limit on Sedley Terrace and Sedley Court (hereinafter Flower Hill North) in the Flower Hill Section of Gaithersburg be lowered from 25 MPH to 15 MPH:
Flower Hill North does not have sidewalks on which pedestrians can walk;
Children play and people walk their dogs in Flower Hill North’s streets because of the lack of sidewalks;
Flower Hill North’s streets are narrow. There is a blind curve on Sedley Terrace on which cars, vans, and other vehicles park so that only one vehicle can pass through at a time. This combination of a blind curve, narrow passageway, and high speed limit causes the potential for head on collisions, collisions with pedestrians, collisions with children playing or bicycling, etc. ;
The County has expressed a lack of interest in placing a “Slow, Children at Play†sign in Flower Hill North and in placing speed bumps in Flower Hill North;
It is only a matter of time before property is damaged or someone is injured or killed.
Lowering the speed limit in Flower Hill North will decrease the likelihood of property damage, personal injury, or death.
