| 451 | Heather Martindale | I've been watching this show with my grandmother who is 82 since I was a little girl. Any type of adult show that attracts a child as a loyal viewer says something. That's the thing that builds a loyal fanbase, lifelong viewers, which is really what soaps rely on. With the way the show is being written now, I don't see that happening anymore. I realize that everything changes, and that it has to, but there has to be a constant, something that remains stable. I remember many things from Guiding Light, many characters that have come and gone. I also remember many characters that were there and are still there. But, they're really not "there" anymore. I think there is a change that needs to happen, but not with the actors, something else entirely. There's got to be some old reels in the stacks around there somewhere, for god's sake, PLEASE, someone go watch them! |

I believe that all 1.8 of us will agree that the look is stunning. Yes different from what we have seen before but an improvement. I have to admit Main st. actually is Main St., so is...The Cooper diner and ect..... However, the production is poor. The shaky camera's is amatuer and the sound is terrible. You have the odasity to play music on top of already muffled conversation. My god, the actors already sound as if they are covering their mouths when they speak... DONT YOU WATCH BEFORE THE SHOW AIRS?
2) The sets are lovely but.. No one is doing anything interesting. Example: Reva and Johnathon talking about pringles. Where is the beefy storylines!!!!!!!!!!!! . I'll tell you this... You had the audience anticipating Feb 29th. The promos were mesmerizing and we all couldnt wait to see what you had in store. I had alot of friends who didnt watch the show but remembered that I did, tell me that they were going to tune in to see what the excitement was about. They were highly disappointed! It was because their was absolutely no story! Cassie and Reva got lost in Cassie's backyard. Their was about 20 minutes at the end filled with music. I think we heard the theme song at least 5 times with 5 different instruments..... Piano, guitar, saxaphone, flute then maybe even drums. What a waist. Honestly, I might be your biggerst fan. I want you to do well....each Friday I race to our local magazine store to see if your ratings have improved. I dont understand why it is more important for the current Producer-Writing team to create their own Springfield rather than listen to their dwindling audience! Tell us a STORY!!!! At least one!! Reva's starts exercising and during nights. She gets mugged and raped. It spins her back to the bad girl we love to hate. She also turns to alcohol to suppress the feelings. Good Ol' Billy helps her through it. Ross Marler has been stranded on an Island somewhere... maybe connect Doris to his long disappearance... We should begin to see that Springfield isnt so safe and goody. Anything! You promised action!
3) Your focus is on those d#$%m sets and not the Story. Kreizman please drive good story!!!!!
4) Im calling for the impeachment of Ellen Wheeler. She's the EP and she's allowing this all to go on! Watch the show, Ellen and David. We do.... and we are not impressed!!
5) Rafe, Natalia, Daisy, Ashlee, Coop, Marina, Dylan, Cyrus, & Cassie can all leave town on the next train. The characters are a waste of money.

Now we have the Harley/Gus/Natalia/Olivia thing that ends in the death of Gus just as he and Harley realize they will never get past "them." A person can marry the wrong one and get divorced; get divorced and remarry; turn good then bad and good again. But when you kill someone off...you've lost that chance to do something good with them again. Oh, yes, we've had Reva...and many others "die" on a soap and come back years later, but not after we've watched them die on a stretcher or they've had their hearts removed. Gus been killed off the show is a BIG mistake. He will always be Harley's true love just as Josh is Reva's. Now there will be no going back for them.
Also, the writers are making a lot of mistakes by now fully knowing history and especially by not thinking ahead. |

Ellen Wheeler and David Kreizman has destroyed Guiding Light:
-They downgraded as recurring some veteran characters, such as Beth, Blake, Holly, Ross. So, verDorn and Garreth left the show. Blake has become a very different character: she is not what she used to be, becoming just a distraction comic. The same for Beth, who replaced Phillip in a storyline created for him. They haven't written a story for her, but they used her only as a replacement when discovered that Grant Aleksander would not return on the show. The team has destroyed her character, they change her into a poor mad, thirsty for money and Spaulding Men dependent.
-Current team made horrible recast (Cassie, Daisy) and created unnecessary characters (Rafe, Natalia, Ava, and the new contract status of Remy)
-They ruined interesting characters with silly plots (Alan Michael and his love story with Marina) or sometimes they forget the people: where are Blake children? -They completely distorted the character of Cassie.
-The make stupid decisions: Daisy, Leah and Marina's age, for example. |

The music montages are just plain lazy. Where are the storylines?? They talk about the new format and play up the realism. Who says I want reality? I have enough of reality all day! I watch Guiding Light for the fantasy, the escape from my real life. I loved GL in the 80s and 90s when it was glamorous and UNREAL. We need a great villain like Roger Thorpe again. I love Coop and Ashlee..for a while i thought the storylines were good and going somewhere with potential to a great story and love story...But now,Blake is in the mix probably to sleep with Coop and break them apart..and Ashlee is totally different as a person since her operation and it could've been a great story with just the recovery and no the writers have to change her and you're having Coop being again manipulated with a sexual triangle thing with creepy Blake...'common..I love this couple for so many reasons..they are soo realistic and everyday life couple and have him cheating on her would take something away from her story and not fair for her to loose and suffer again because of her weight issue.And i am not even talking about the other characters and storylines that sucks and makes no sense. |

It was bad enough that the storyline was having troubles, thanks to the writers, but this new handheld camera thing has killed it imho. For starters, trying to watch it gives me motion sickness! In addition, it is often difficult to hear what is being said.

They may have been horrible stories but atleast you know what the storyline was about. Kreizman's stories just spin their wheels and if your character's last name isn't Cooper, your character may not be seen for weeks.
Kreizman started off good but that was 4 years ago and now it's time for him to move on before 4 years from now nobody at GL has a job because it'll be off the air. The stories are not character driven, charaters do things that goes against their personalities and their histories.
Their are no villians or villianesses on the show. Every show needs a few good villians and or villianesses at all times; because they are the ones that drive the storylines. Alan is no longer a villian he's a cartoon. Kreizman has never known how to write for any of the Spauldings or the Lewises either for that matter (I won't even mention the Bauers and the Marlers since Kreizman doesn't either).
The show has just become stale and the actors just seem to be going through the motions. GL has some the best actors and actresses on television and many of them have the Emmy wins and nominations to prove it. But the material they have been given for the past few years has been awful. These actors deserve better and it's no surprise that an actress like Beth Ehlers has left the show now. Her character would never do some of the things she's done the past few years. Harley doesn't know anything about running a billion dollar corporation and she wouldn't sleep with her nieces' boyfriend. And that's just Harley's character many other characters are slowly being destoryed by doing things that are against their personalities.
GL needs a new head writer quick before it's too late. I recomend Kay Alden, Millee Taggart, Eleanor Labine or God willing Pam Long. Maybe go over to England and get a writer from Corronation Street. |

I have watched this show go downhill for years, but I have continued to watch because I love so many of the actors. The actors are the only thing this show has because the storylines are ridiculous. There are barely storylines. I wish they would let the actors write their own lines because the writers have no clue who these characters are anymore. They changed the character of Harley so much, no wonder BE left the show. I could tell she still tried to play Harley well, but they destroyed that character. I make an income in the high six figures so I think I have the money to buy the products Procter & Gamble are advertising during the show. The show is literally unrecognizable as GUIDING LIGHT and I'm afraid it's headed for imminent cancellation. Please get rid of Ellen Wheeler and David Kriezman and return to the excellent storytelling GUIDING LIGHT has enjoyed in the past! Continuity is the bedrock of soap opera storytelling and the show is completely without it right now--it's a jumbled mess that looks as if it's being improvised and filmed on a cell phone with a sountrack consisting of "The Worst of My Space". You are driving away not only the more mature viewers but the younger viewers as well. Younger people are not stupid. They enjoy excellent storytelling just as much as older viewers. Most of us WERE younger when we started watching. Bring back the real GUIDING LIGHT!!! |
