Eugene K. ClaryThe current law allows municipalities to annex areas without the consent of the residents of those areas. This amounts to taxation without representation.

Andrea AshburnThis is purely "Taxation without Representation"; it's a form of allowing lobbyists to control our destiny!
Delma S. MoorePlease, please help the citizens of Guilford County who are being annexed unfairly. Many people have different reasons for opposing. My reason is the fact that Greensboro cannot afford to provide the services that we should receive for doubling our taxes. We have many lawsuits in the city due to poor actions in our police department and what many citizens feel is a cover-up by the elected city leaders (whom we were not able to elect). I wish you could hear our city council members right now on Channel 13 argue about what is more important...a life or a dollar. They are discussing how in the world they are going to pay for the trash pick-up services to 10,000 more people just in our area alone. Forget about police protection. There will be none. Yes, we do have water and sewer. For two retired senior citizens, we have presently paid $100.40 for each of the last three months. Our neighbor takes clothes to the laundermat in an effort to lower her water bill. The city says our bill will be cut in half on June 30. Yet they have already spoken for a 7-9% increase in Jan. Tonight at the city council meeting, a group representing 22 homes spoke to have their annexation put off until next year. They brought this action because the council had put off their neighbors' annexation (at least 200 homes) for another year. The 22 homeowners live 5 miles from the present city limits and they have no city water or sewer. The Greensboro City Council told them it was too late to make a change. The U. S. Dept. of Justice had already approved their Plan Q. One council member who felt sympathy for this small group lamented, "What a mess we have put ourselves in!" Take a moment and think about how WE , the taxpayers feel about government which is not allowing us to have a voice. Yes, I watched Rep. Earl Jones say he was voting for a moratorium to move forward, but he really wanted to be clear on understanding that our Guilford Co. annexations had been completed. He was afraid, just as the Rep. from Wilmington, to stand up for the voters they were both sent to Raleigh to represent. What a shame! A dollar is more important than a life to many who serve the people. Delma and Charles Moore

Linda BallanceNeighborhoods consisting of 280 homes surround our 22 homes in Millstream Sub-Division and they have been provided City Water & Sewer for 10 years. They received a delay for annexation and our 22 homes have been forced for annexation 6/30/08 and we have to pay between $18,000 and $20,000 cost which includes to run lines on larger lots, plumbing cost of $6,000 and Septic cost of approximately $4,000. This is very unfair and unconstitutional.
Gary FogleI feel that the voters should have a say in if they are annexed into a city or not. This should be a fair and acountable item brought before the people it concerns
Jeffrey PhippsJust to add to what Linda Ballance said above, we are 5 miles from the main boundary of Greensboro. We obviously won't receive decent fire/police protection this far out, but the city will take our tax money anyway! BTW, the only council member that went to bat for us was Goldie Wells. She'll get my vote, but the rest are out!

Edward P. DellaCroceI have moved three times to avoid becoming a citizen of the city of Goldsboro. I WILL NOT MOVE AGAIN! I am a tax payer stripped of my right to live where I choose. I am in the county by choice. This is where I choose to seek my pursuit of happiness. Leave me alone!

Michael McKnightThe property owners being annexed should be allowed to vote on whether or not the annexation should be permitted.

Lydia JerniganMy neighbors and I in the Millstream development of eastern Guilford County have fought annexation by the city of Greensboro twice now without success. We live five miles from the contiguous city limits of Greensboro, but are being annexed in order to bring in some commercial property along the highway. We are scheduled to be annexed on June 30, 2008. Our only hope now is that this bill be passed before that date.
