| 151 | Lynn Toth | I am the parent of a seventh grader at LVMS. Connected Math was introduced this year even though this class has never had the background of EveryDay Math. The Middle School is now offering support groups during the week for those students needing help with the new math. Are you sure we did ALL of our homework before implementing this program?? |

| 153 | Patti Conner | I feel this program is going to hurt our children in the long run. |
| 154 | Theresa Carpenter | My daughter is a first grade teacher in Rockaway township and they tried Everyday Math. Needless to say, they are no longer using this program. |

| 157 | michael brown | My daughter is graduating this spring with a BS in mathematics from Boston University. This would not be probable or even possible had she been taught via the Every Day math corriculum in Long Valley Middle School. |

| 161 | Forrest "Woody" Burgener | When I initially started questioning and, yes, complaining, about Everyday Math I was given a PROMOTIONAL VIDEO by the math department (distributed, apparently, by the company that sells the program !) and was told it would "answer any questions" I had re the program. No, it did not.
Upon further questioning/complaining I was offered a "parental study class" that would teach ME the program so I could help my child with the Everyday Math homework!! Excuse me....I already "passed" 4th grade math...and still have the "times" tables memorized.
It seems that the way I was taught math (and which helped me get an MBA) was "confusing" my little student and making her 'stress out' over homework!
I could be wrong but....wasn't the Lattice Method invented by a nation that worships....cows?? |

| 164 | Anonymous | We hired tutors to help my daughter through Connected Math in seventh grade. She did not have the foundation needed to be sucessful. They are doing the program in smaller time periods than suggested by the program's creators and are therefore moving too fast for kids to gain complete understanding or mastery. This will lead to gaps in their foundation for high school math. |

| 167 | Barbara C. Brown | The battle against EM is another in a 25-year-long war of many parents and educators against the dumbing down of public education in this country. This type of feel-good non-competitive garbage has been rammed down our throats for years by consultants, textbook publishers, and school administrators. No subject has gone unscathed by this left-wing attack on our educational institutions. No Child Left Behind has only exacerbated an already dim outlook for our children' and our nation's future as curricula and test standards are lowered so school scores can be raised. When you're pondering what color math would be if it were a color (from a 5th grade EM textbook), you should be purple with rage! |

| 180 | Anonymous | We are considering moving to Long Valley, but Everyday Math concerns me. My kids are ahead for their grades, and I worry this would be ineffective for them. I helped a child with it recently (CT school) and found the methods ineffective and confusing, and I had also heard about the controversy in many districts across the US that use Everyday Mathematics.
It seems it is one of those trends in education that will be deemed ineffective.
I just thought I should chime in as this affects my view of the curriculum as an outsider considering living in Long Valley (or not, since this makes us nervous). Our current district, also in NJ, uses a traditional curriculum, which has been effective for our elementary aged children. |
