VICTORIA RATIAn appropriate mixed use development is called for

Ester FreundI am very much against this proposed development. Erskineville Village should be saved for its unique country feel. We fought hard to save our community school and we should all along similar lines to save Erskineville Village. There is absolutely no need for this shopping development. It will certainly effect the local businesses.
Raymond CarbonaroI feel the proposed developemnt will damage the Village of Erskineville not to mention the businesses in the Villgae, This is bad for the community and is not welcomed in this area
Daniel JamesWith two small supermarkets on King Street (Franklins and Foodworks), and two large supermarkets very close by (Broadway and Marrickville Metro), another supermarket simply isn't required. I oppose the development of a Woolworths or Coles or other large supermarket on the Hive site.
Nicholas GiuriettoWhat a totally stupid idea. Let's invite Clover to take a drive down Erskineville Road on a Saturday morning and imagine making that twice as bad. Perhaps if we invite a Herald journalist she just might do it for the publicity and then deny the proposal. Oh how cynical .....
Elizabeth FranklinI'm a local resident. We definitely don't need another supermarket in the neighbourhood. I wouldn't object to some lovely independently owned small shops. No Woolworths.

amanda perkinsI am vehemently opposed to the supermarket proposal in our village, and am terrified at the prospect of the demise of the cherished small businesses in the area
AnonymousHi, I live on Gowrie St and every day I find it extremely difficult to find parking, anywhere on Gowrie and nearby streets, let alone near my home, I have 2 young children under the age of 6, which make it even harder for myself and my wife, especially when the kids sleep in the car or coming home after groceries shopping which make parking near our home even more necessary. The proposed development will worsen the parking problems which every local residents will be effected. Not long ago I copped two fines for parking too close the intersection, I don't see how the council can responsibly approve this development when parking availability is such a big problem. Regards, Dan.

Scott DonellyAngel Street at the moment has high traffic at certain times of the day with the School etc and on weekend there are many cars travelling the wrong way down one way streets which will only increase if people are encouraged to drive in the area
Eva HolmqvistThanks for the information that came in the mail. Without it it seems we would not have been informed about this rather large development which will impact, in my opinion, negatively on our very nice village atmosphere.
Tony FiddesI strongly object to the proposed development. Erskineville has established itself as a successful village, well serviced by local shops and larger stores in Marrickville. This development will impact negatively residents experience of this wonderful suburb.
Paul HowardI live in the enclave that will be severely affected by the increase in traffic and noise generated by a supermarket of this style and size. I was happy with the original development approved by Council, a mix of office suites, café, retail and show rooms. The City of Sydney has successfully managed the redevelopment of Dank Street, Waterloo, now Danks Street is celebrating being the City's newest and liveliest village. Full of galleries, great places to eat, good retail and tons of atmosphere, along with quality apartment living, This development could be the beginning of our transformation into another style Dank Street. Before we all finally decide, I would like to see independent studies undertaken that review the impacts on traffic in the area including our quiet enclave, a Social Impact Study and a Retail Impact Study that looks at the short term and long term impact on our village.
Adrian O'ConnorI am not opposed to redevelopment of the site in general however do not believe the proposed supermarket use is appropriate. My main concern is increased traffic congestion - the area is already congested and I don't think the narrow surrounding streets can support the trucks/staff/customer parking that would result.

A Happy residentHow ridiculous...First you stand in the way of the previous DA being approved in 2005 (which would've had much less impact on you, and would've developed the area further) and now you are 'pissie' because another DA has come in its place, and yet again, you simply don't agree with what should be built there. Serves you right I say! I think it is a wonderful idea, and is very much needed in our area; especially for the people living in the Erko area. We've been ripped off long enough by the neighbourhood Supermarket and their pricing, as well as that of foodworks. A supermarket is needed in our village area, and would do a world of good for us. The only thing you're worried about is your residence and how it will impact you, so please stop pretending it's for the good of the rest of us. We know what we want, and that's for the development of the Hive area as at the moment it is atrocious and dark. We will be holding a petition to have this DA move forward. A Happy resident

Gretchen MillerI can't believe that City of Sydney Council might allow this proposal to go through. With the new railway yards at Macdonaldtown at one end of Albert Street, and now a giant supermarket at the other - what is Erskineville becoming? Please encourage small mixed business (a decent butcher would be good!) on the Hive site. Perhaps mixed in with arts rehearsal spaces, music shops - keep Erskineville unique and dynamic, not monochrome and traffic laden.
Sarah PennWe moved to Erskineville 2 years ago and the main attraction is the Erskineville Village - not just the shops, but the community atmosphere. The development of a commercial shopping mall would impinge significantly on our local area and destroy the very thing that attracted us to Erskineville in the first place.
George Sklavounos
Heidi MuggenthalerWe have a little supermarket in the village, it has been there for years, together with other small businesses which add to the feel of the"village". A supermarket will destroy these small shops. Parking for anyone will be a nightmare. We already have the "Erskineville Crawl" ervery afternoon on Erskineville Road towards Newtown. We have enough trucks clogging up the narrow streets.
DeenaRoads and laneways in the vicinity of the proposed Woolworths development will not be able to handle the added congestion, without completely disrupting the accessibility for residents, as well as the peaceful surrounds that make this such a unique community to live in. There are several other grocery outlets both within walking and driving distance - Woolworths brings nothing unique or different, just more of the same. The traffic on Erskineville Rd can be bad enough at peak times, without the added pressure from yet ANOTHER grocery store. Parking can be difficult enough for residents as it is. I am strongly opposed to this development.
Darren Ferris.I am opposed to this location being used for the proposed 2 story Woolworths or Coles or similar type of business, and believe the site should be used for a development that enhances the village type area.
AnonymousI am opposed to the proposed 2 story Woolworths development or similar use and the increased noice and traffic this would bring, and believe instead the site must be developed with a more village and community life development that will enhance the area.

Patricia VaughanI have lived in the area for the past 24 years and have seen the village grow. I would hate to see it destroyed by adding large supermarket complexes. At present it has a nice community aspect and we would like to keep it that way.
AnonymousDown with corporate hegemony.

Laura MacfarlaneI have lived in Gowrie Street for 10 years and I love it the way it is. I also believe in protecting small businesses in the area and preserving the existing communal and intimate ambience. WE DO NOT NEED AN IMPERSONAL CHAIN SUPERMARKET HERE! We don't want MacDonalds or Gloria Jeans or any of those boring generic chains. People will not patronise it. Residents will oppose a development of this kind all the way.
Ruth LawI am outraged at the thought of having a major supermarket in our local area. We are well serviced by smaller supermarkets and the big outlets at Broadway and Marrickville Mall and Redfern. The Newtown/Erskineville community does not embrace major corporations. For example the closures of MacDonalds, TAB and Bakers Delight. Please do not allow this development to go ahead in our village community. Ruth Law
AnonymousI agree entirely with the above statement. I live in Erskineville and have always felt that the most attractive feature is its village atmosphere. This would be destroyed by a development proposal such as the above. I am completely apposed and would hate to see it go ahead.
Stuart DohertyNo to the Woolworths development in Erskineville. Please keep Erskineville a village and reduce traffic.
Linda GatelyEnvironmental is not just about greenhouse gases and forest logging. It is also about keep a local community connected; it is walking to the cornershop where you are known by name. Not the well lit aisles of a supermarket chain with its busy carpark!
MARY-LOUISE FOWLERErskinveille is unique because of its village atmosphere. This is an asset to the community and small businesses and would be ruined by a big supermarket chain development. I do not believe this development should be approved.
Peter UlrickI have a number of friends who live in the area and I regularly socialise in shopping village area.
David Barry
Julie BakerWe really don't need another supermarket when we have several so close. This development will make the traffic congestion and the parking problems many of us have so much worse.
