NURSE PRACTITIONERS and MEDICARE REIMBURSEMENT

The is an inadequate number of rural health care providers in the Unites States. Nurse Practitioners have been filling in this gap to care for rural patients. Currently Medicare has not modernized their language to include Nurse Practitioners to be allowed to perform and receive reimbursements for the services providerd for the patients they are caring for. Rural Provider Equity Act of 2003 will help provide better care for rural Medicare patient and modernize the language. Bill S. 1185 will provide the opportunity for Medicare patients to access Home Health, Hospice and Skilled Nursing Facility care from qualified nurse practitioners.
