Encinitas: Endorse US Mayors Climate Protection Agreement and BREC Report

The petition

We, the citizens of Encinitas, ask Mayor James Bond and the Encinitas City Council to endorse the United States Mayors Climate Protection Agreement and to expedite the implementation of all recommendations of the Blue Ribbon Environmental Committee's Report.

More than five hundred cities have become "cool" cities and have signed on to the US Mayors Climate Protection Agreement including San Diego, El Cajon, Solana Beach and Del Mar. This is an agreement that mayors sign agreeing to follow specific guidelines to reduce carbon emissions in their cities. Encinitas has not signed this important agreement and more importantly has not implemented its own Blue Ribbon Environmental Committee's Report. This report provides reasonable, cost-effective recommendations on how the city could improve its environmental policies and procedures, reduce its negative impact on the environment and achieve greater sustainability.

We at GreEncinitas would like to see Encinitas take care of our precious environment and the future health of our community. Therefore we have created this petition to present to the City Council so its members understand what their constituents want and expect.
