PETITION TO AT&T, INC. BY EL DORADO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS AND/OR BUSINESS OWNERS
WHEREAS quality telecommunications services are a vital part of El Dorado County’s infrastructure;
WHEREAS AT&T is the predominant wire line telecommunications service provider in El Dorado County;
WHEREAS large areas of El Dorado County are currently served by a deteriorating wire line telephone system that has been in place for decades and is technologically incapable of providing broadband Internet access throughout the county;
WHEREAS broadband Internet access promotes commerce and entrepreneurial activity;
WHEREAS broadband Internet access reduces vehicle trips and fuel consumption through telecommuting, distance learning and remote medical diagnostics and care;
WHEREAS El Dorado County’s unique topographical characteristics require wire line provision of broadband Internet access;
WHEREAS fiber optic cable provides substantially greater capabilities over twisted pair copper wire cable for the provision of telecommunications and information services including voice, data and television programming;
THEREFORE, We the undersigned El Dorado County residents and/or business owners petition AT&T demonstrate its commitment to serving El Dorado County’s current and future telecommunications needs by taking immediate measures to upgrade its assets in El Dorado County with fiber optic cable and offering broadband Internet access throughout the county at the earliest possible date.
FURTHERMORE, if AT&T determines such action is not in the economic interests of its shareholders, the undersigned petition the company to immediately solicit bids to sell off its assets in the county to another telecommunications provider that is committed to putting in place a state of the art telecommunications system to serve the current and future needs of El Dorado County. |
