By signing this petition, I support the existence of the new word “ecopistemology” because:

(1) “Ecopistemology” is defined as the investigation of the structure and organization of knowledge in concern of human relationships to the environment.

The word “ecopistemology” needs to exist because we need to address the multi-scale fragmentation of perceptions, language systems, and value systems that exists in the modern university—which expands outward to fragmented organization of departments and academic bureaucracies—leading to relative inability of interdisciplinary communication and collaboration in constructing a common vision in concern of coupled human-environmental problems.

(2) The word “ecopistemology” sounds really cool, and Victoria is a cool person, and she asked me to sign the petition. Yay!
