This petition is now superseded with much thanks to all those that responded! The fight for EPG in Australia still continues. There is now an active Lobby group fighting for Australian Viewers Rights. Please join us at www.myepg.com.au The site provides information on what is currently happening and how you can actively participate. The more noise we can make, the faster this will be resolved. So come and join us and be VOCAL! It\'s time we stood up for what is rightfully ours! --------------------------------------------------------- The Australian Television Industry is refusing to supply information regarding their television programming in any electronic format that is useable within Electronic devices such as Personal Video Recorders and Set Top Boxes. They are actively pursuing those that are attempting to provide such data to the public. As a result the uptake of new technology (including HDTV) is being stunted. An Electronic Program Guide is a fundamental part of the use of such new devices (PVR\'s, Set top recorders etc), allowing the user simple and convenient access to upcoming programming information that is available in many printed publications and on-line. We believe that this information enables users to move to new technology and reap the benefits of technological advancements in the digital realm, enabling consumers to sample more content than ever before, whether that be free to air or via payed cable services. We believe that the resistance being exhibited toward the provision of this content is counter productive to both the providers and consumers of such content and is having an adverse effect on the uptake of digital technology in our country. Many countries throughout the world have embraced this new technology and provide such data freely and willingly, moving with the times, to progress the uptake and advancements in the industry. We hope to promote such thinking within the Australian Industry also. This petition has been extended to run beyond the original Jan 2007 close date (likely until the issue becomes hot in the press, on the web and in the courts again, when the presentation of the data will have most benefit). The data will be then collated and forwarded to the content holders, Government and Manufacturers trading in the Australian PVR market. The EPG content holders will be made aware of the location of this petition to enable them to track the public opinion surrounding this issue. Please make your feelings known. Note: Upon signing the below you will be taken to a donations page for ipetitions. Donation to ipetitions is optional and will not affect your response to the petition. You can simply close the donation window however I encourage anyone who finds the service ipetitions are providing to be useful to donate a reasonable amount for their service.
