This is a great institution. Rollerskating is a passion for peope of all ages and we need to preserve the skating rinks for that purpose.

Roller Skating was an outlet for me growing up as a kid is nyc. I have skated in every rink in nyc, which include , High Roller, The Roxy, Metropolis, Skate Key, Empire, Laces, Stars. It saddens me to know that such a great sport/ form of recreation has become extinct. Please keep skating alive

Tasha Klusmann, Washington, D.C., USA Empire Roller Rink qualifies as a historical landmark due to the amount of time it has been a significant part of the community and the thousands of people who have skated recreationally, as well as competitivily, and the unique skate styles that were birth in the unique atmosphere of this special venues walls. As a historical landmark it would be protected from being torn down and would recieve recognition for it place in history.

I have never been to Empire but have heard good things about it. Kids need something to do and closing this rink would have a negative impact on the neighborhood. There would be nothing for the kids to do. Keep it open
I'm from Baltimore and I haven't had a chance to skate @ Empire Skating Rink but I am always up for saving any skating rink ~ so Prayerfully the Lord will intercept this and allow this rink to stay opened. New York you will be in my prayers...
I grew up roller skating with my Dad, a dance instructor at Empire. Skating provided my friends and I hours of freedom, freedom from bordom, freedom from peer pressure, and freedom to be just me on the floor, with the music and my self.
I feel that the positive mind, body, cultural and spiritual contributions of keeping empire skating rink open to the community far outweights the value of anything that could be a cause to close this institution and the social benefits that it provides.

I have been skating for over 50 years and Empire was one of the first rinks I skated in. My skating club sponsored many bus trips to Empire which always sold out, my husband and I met in our hometown(Baltimore) roller rink, skated professionally as well as recreational. We both are troubled about loosing a historical landmark for the Brooklyn New York area.
Prime real estate is not everything, have some people sense. Weehawken, NJ, USA
this will be the only roller rink in n.y., an historical landmark, unthinkable to allow this institution to be destroyed- !
there were three places i went to find comfort in the year following the sept. 11th attacks on the city. since i worked in WTC, and lost my job, i had lots of time on my hands for a while. what kept me together? skating with my closest friends. whether at empire, or roxy, or in central park, it kept me from losing it, and it's a shame to know that someone else might not be able to take advantage of this stress reliever down the line. please don't close empire, it's a ny landmark, and it's a place for not only adult to go and enjoy, but a safe and fun place for the kids too. let empire live on and continue to give us freedom on wheels....

I started roller skating back in the late 60,early 70' s since then I've been skating ever since, when I heard it was closing it just brought teeeeeeaaaarrrr to my eye's. It's the birth place of disco roller skating, WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY IS STOP THE MADDDDDDDNEEESSSSSS if you close Empire where are we going to go, Please don't close save this landmark so that we can have more fun at empire.....

Empire should be considered a historical landmark, since it has been there for generations of skaters dating as far back to the '60's as far as I know, therefore making it impossible to be replaced as a skating rink. Skating is a recreation that helps keep our youth out of the streets, hence out of trouble, and Empire provides that escape for our urban youth. Empire must stay, I was brought up in that rink, & I want to bring my daughter up there as well as she may want to do the same for her offspring. !!!!!! SAVE EMPIRE !!!!!!!!

I Love Empire. that place is one of the oldest, and most historic rinks left in skating. A stepping stone in what skating has become... and the Birth place of roller disco. If it goes, it takes pieces of everyone who has ever skated there, or loved it with them. And takes a small piece of the fabric of a society along with it... SAVE EMPIRE!!!
I am from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I have family that lives in Brooklyn New York, close to the Empire Roller rink. I first skated there in 1997 and was amazed by the talent of the skaters at the rink. There is a revival of skating in America. I am in my mid thirties and skating is the thing I loved most as a kid and as an adult. The Empire Roller Rink for me is the Mecca of skating. The place I dream about skating most of all because the talent level at this rink is second to none. In terms of creativity on skates this rink is a must do on any skaters list. I go to Brooklyn at least two times a year and this is the place I spend my weekends when I'm there. Many people do not know people still skate and this is why the attendance at many rinks is poor. We have to promote the fact that these rinks are still there and find new ways of making income for these rinks. These rinks should double as meeting halls or venues for business meetings. Keep Empire open. My soul needs it!!! Thank You Stephen Campbell Toronto, Ontario Canada
