PLEASE DO NOT CLOSE EMPIRE!!! WE NEED IT IN OUR COMMUNITY. IT'S IS A GREATLY LOVED HOBBY BY MANY IF NOT EVERY ONE OIN OUR COMMUNITY.
Empire Skate Rink is a unique place catering to a unique sport- to have it turned into something generic- a store, a shopping center, whatever- that can be found anywhere, is a true shame. Please, SAVE EMPIRE! In a city as large as NYC, there are SO few places to skate- we are not small town America where you would more expect there to be less availability of venues/resources. If Empire is closed, what true skating rinks are we left with?

Please Do Not Close This Rink. The community needs balance... not just commercial corridors.

Skating is one of the oldest hobbies that we need to preserve and some of the nicest people are involved with skating.

Where will the kids go to skate now?
Please do not shut down Empire Rollerskating Rink. It is a national landmark. Once it is gone, it cannot be replaced (like Ebbett's Field). The only rollerskating rink in the Bronx recently closed and now you are considering shutting down the only one in Brooklyn. Where will local kids, families and die hard skaters go? Please protect this treasured skating mecca and important community resource. Sincerely, Ida Dupont
Empire Roller Rink is the perfect environment brooklyn needs. Its a home for all us lovers of rollerskating, regardles of sex, age, or race.
Please keep the Empire for the sake of our children and our community.

Its a nice way of keeping kids off the streets.. I just think more security is needed. Thanks, Nancy
First Ebbets Field-across the street. Save EMPIRE Generations have grown up there!
I grew up in brooklyn and roller skating kept me from the lure of the streets. I couldn't wait until I was old enough to roller skate at Empire. In short I joined the Military (United States Marine Corps) and kept my love of rollerskating, and every where I went so did my skates (when I went to Iraq my skates were in the bottom of my seabag, just in case I was able to find some wood or concrete to work out some frustration). During my time in the Marine Corps my love of skating helped to keep me focused. Skating was and still is my outlet for relaxation and social connections. I have since retired from the Marines but not roller skating. There are roller skating clubs from one end of the country to the other (and also in other countries) and alot of them say they can't wait to get a chance to skate at Empire. Like I said earlier I could not wait to skate at Empire and the only history I had known about Empire at that time was that it was the place my friends (and older people that I looked up to) that were actually LOOKING for something spent there time. The interesting thing is that, it was not until I was in the Military and was talking to people about rollerskating did I find out about the history of Empire. At the time I was stationed in Okinawa Japan and it was interesting to find out that they knew about Empire roller rink half way around the world (ask a skater from Okinawa Japan they call him Number one soul skater in Japan (shigeki@soulskate.net)). Bill butler who was one of first jam skaters at Empire is an Icon in the roller skating community he is not originally from New york but he talks about his time spent at Empire. All I can say is take a walk and a look around the community and think about the many youths that can be touched and have been saved from the streets just because they couldn't wait to skate at Empire. 129 We need Empire. It has been a positive venue for the Brooklyn area and the city at large. I would hate for it to go away. I look forward to skating every Tuesday night as a way to leave all of my worries behind become a kid again. They say youth is wasted on the young but not at Empire. At Empire it thrives and grows.

Children in the community NEED this rink. Please do not close down this landmark of culture.

I have been skating at Empire Roller Rinks since 1972. I am part of a wonderful skate family. Some whom I have known for over 30 years. My daughter is now part of that skate family. Brooklyn will not be the same without "Empire". This is a skating rink that brings together a variety of people. I do not want this rink to close!
No Way, first Skatekey, now Empire and soon or later Roxy as well. Just explored this amazing hobby two years ago, and it make me very sad to know that my favorit skating rink is about to close. After Atlanta skat-8-ton, and soon the trip to Sharolett just get me want more and more of skating. Hope its only temporary, and skating rinks will reopen in different locations.
I will fast and pray that they do not close the skating rink.I have generations from generations that been going to Empire. I also (we also) have a bunch of memories with the staff and regulars that go to empire. Please fight hard to keep Empire open.
Empire has been around my entire life....and i love it...it's a place to just have fun meet new people and learn a few things PLEASE LET'S KEEP THIS LANDMARK FOR THE GENERATIONS TO COME

please save this skating center.Speaking from my personal experience it is a perfect opportunity for young and old to have a safe and positive recreational oulet. Empire in my opinion provides both of these elements.
very discomforting, Empire is the only place where age is of no consequence all ethnicitiese come to enjoy the music: each other : and yes those skating moves and grooves This is personnel KEEP EMPIRE OPEN THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN

Save the Empire Roller Skating Rink, skating is and excellent sport for both young and old. It also helps strengthens the body and is used as a cadio exercise. How can any make the decision of destroying a sport so great, something you can do with a partner or by yourself. Make yourself proud and make the biggest statement of your life and say "SAVE THE RINK"
I am from NY and I used to skate @ Empire when I lived in Brooklyn and even when I moved to Long Island. I live in NC now and I cant imagine the Skate Ranch closing its doors. I love to skate way to much! when I go home in April Empire is going to be the first place I go . KEEP IT OPEN!
SAVE THE EMPIRE. ROLLETR SKATING IS GREAT FOR EVERYONE...
I remember the Empire Skating rink being around since I was very young. I am 27 years old now and I always took pleasure in seeing that this skating rink survived many years when a great number of businesses shut down because of increasing rent prices or what not. It was always great to see so many people lined up no matter what night it was to have a good time and to take that away from the youth of the community (and some of the older folks) would be a shame. I believe the skating rink keeps the younger crowd out of trouble on a Friday or Saturday night when they could be out drinking and causing harm to themselves. This rink represents so much to so many. It's one of the last things in this city that represents good clean fun.
Keep a wonder land mark open for all to experience true NYC Flavor.
Keep the Empire open!
