| 762 | I'm a Bronx born, Strong Island raised skater currently residing in Clinton Md. I travel to Brooklyn on a regular basis (usually twice monthly) to frequent the Grand Daddy of Roller Rinks (Empire)... I used to live a life of drugs and Mayheim... But as a teenager, I was invited by some former friends known prior to my wild days to join them for an evening of fun... I was immediately received by the elders of the skate game who, mentored me to an activity that replaced the deseased fate I faced with the drugs & Mayheim, of which I was more than knee deep with involvement... I soon realized that those who were involved in this posistive activity, were not involved in the drugs or mayheim. Fortunately I made the correct choice this time around, and have over the years grabbed many faced with the same choice, offering an alternative... The closing of this historical monument is an abonination, which reflects the savagery and intent of the sellers... It's only with blessed fortune that those involved with this dastardly deed remain unknown... Thanks Rick 10 : 4 |

| 766 | I just went to Empire for the first time last week. the vibe was amazing! i totally agree with everything that was stated in the petition. i also feel like we too often let commerce and economics get in the way of community and solidarity. we complain of city violence, and lack of structure in urban settings, yet we destroy the very establishments that support and foster positive behavior, and community strength (in favor of a one stop shopping giant? there has to be other places that COSTCO can find space. ) |

I have met a lot of people and learned a lot of things. When I a mad skating eases my mind like excersing do for some. It really hurts to see that this remarkable place is going to close. I know that hope is strong, however, hope is what I'm skating on to keep this rink open. I have a son who is a roller from the heart and his generation need a special historic place to visit outside of Baltimore, MD. |

I have never seen so many happy people(black, white, spanish, chinese, etc...) in 1 building have so much fun skating! Women my mother's age, enjoying life again.
