Please do whatever you can to Keep Roller-Skating a Reality in Brookyln.... Bronx, Queens, Manhattan, and Staten Island. We are a part of what makes this city so unique.
We desperately need to keep skating alive. If Empire closes there will not be any skating rinks left in the New York City area and boroughs. Please help us to keep skating alive. Queens New York.
This is one of the last rink in NYC. Please help to maintain this rink open.

Skating is a part of my Life. I was born and rasied in BKYLn. I started going skating @ Empire with my mom and sisters. Years later I resumed and now its more than a hobbie its a lifestlye for me. Closing Empire will be devastating not just to me but to the Tri state area who enjoy skating.Skating is an outlet for our young kids. PLEASE don't take that away.. Sincerely, A LOYAL SKATER OF EMPIRE
I have been skating at Empire since 1945. it is an institution, a place where generations of New Yorkers, young & old have been coming for over seven decades to skate and exercise and leave their work-a-day world behind and feel the freedom and exhiliration that this superlative activity brings to them. Empire is the only full time indoor roller skating rink left in the New York Metropolitan area, where our next generaion - our children can come & rent skates and develop the skills and build the muscles that make this sport so valuable and attactive to our youth. It gives them a wholesome , creative and affordable form of recreation that they can become absorbed in. It gets them off the streets and makes them feel they are a part of something clean and fulfilling. Affordability is a key here - thousands of people - adults, children, families flock to this, their haven, many of whom can not afford to participate in other sports which are more costly or require travel or are seasonal and more often than not, are problematic for all of these reasons. Are we to leave New York - the greatest city in the world the only major city in the United States and perhaps the world without a single indoor venue devoted to the supreme sport and art of roller skating? Shame on us if we do!!!........................Lezly Ziering (Lezly Skate School)

Though born and raised in Brooklyn, I discovered indoor skating at Empire as an adult in my late twenties in 1979. Wow! What a revelation and joy! A place to have a GUARANTEED, affordable good time and reconnect with friends from vastly diversified backgrounds. Life can throw many challenges and blows your way. But, Empire was the one place that you could go to let it go, and have a worry-free, wholesome good time. No agendas. No judgments. No reason to impress. Just show up and be you... And be prepared to skate. There are not many venues in New York, or anywhere else for that matter, that I have relationships that have spanned 27 years, and where I could count on catching up on lives on a regular basis. But Empire can make that claim. Empire is the bedrock of a (hopefully not) bygone era -- a full time indoor roller skating rink where magic is created nightly AND intriguing personalities skate its floors. Hopefully, the beat goes on. Brooklyn without Empire? Just does not compute.

Please don't destroy what is truly a landmark in our community. Brooklyn will not be the same without the Empire Skating Rink

Stop tearing down our community. We need a place like empire, where our children have a place to go.

SAVE EMPIRE!!!
Roller skating has been around for many, many years. As an adolescent in the Bronx in the 60's my friends and I skated every Sunday in the Fordham section of the Bronx. We had a ball!! Please don't take away the last skating venue in our great City - NEW YORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am devastated that the prospect of Empire Skating rink will most probably be closed. Please keep its existence and deem it as a landmark. Thank you. WANDA GRAY

Please save Empire roller skating rink

plz keep Empire roller rink open.
Please keep the last skating rink open. By closing the rink the sport of skating will die. Giving young people a place to skate will possibly keep them busy and off the streets to get in trouble.
Please do not close EMPIRE! Our community needs a venue like this to keep our children out of trouble. Empire gives them a place to go where they feel like they belong. Additionally, this place keeps many of our children out of trouble. If it is closed where will they go? Where will we go? Even us adults need a place to go other than the clubs. This is extremley upsetting to me...to think that this place which, has been apart of our community for over seventy years will soon exist no more.
This is to save the empire roller rink. There is no other place like the empire rink. It's a place where people get together and have fun. I've been skating there for many years and children and adults of all ages thinks it's a place where it safe and to have community fun. Please reconsider in closing the rink, there will be no other place to skate and to have fun. Regards, Safe The Empire Roller Rink Melinda Gray

Its been only months since I was last there, and the Empire is one of the few reasons I travel to NYC.

I know how developers love to change the community. It's usually what the positive outlets for kids (black) that are the first either torn down or done away with. Skating in the black community is what I grew up doing . I'm surprised that I not hearing about an ice skating rink being put in the place of the roller rink. We as a community really need to step up and protect our interest in the community by getting people that would sponsor or help build our communities into what our children would be proud. I'm a skater for life. It wouldn't take much for us to have a central place for all the skaters to get their roll on. Let's stop letting others shut us down and let's start building our own rinks by connecting our resources. This is not only happening in New York, it's happening everywhere. KING

Skating has been my favorite and major form of exercise for many years. Skating is an art and sport that must be preserved for generations to come. Roller Skating is a great exercise for improving balance, body control, agility, cardiovascular fitness, burning calories, and self esteem. It is gratifying to witness both youth and adults who enters the rink for the first time and are fearful of standing on wheels, but with the assistance of regular skaters, are able to enjoy the skating environment. Most of all, it is amazing to see those same people return to the rink week after week mastering the skill and are now assisting new skaters. I sincerely hope all efforts are successful to maintain EMPIRE, our National Historic rink, because it's services to our youth and the community are paramount. Empire attracts skaters all across the globe and avid skaters need to have a rink in NYC. We must explore all avenues, including communicating with some of our major sports heroes for assistance and/or possible investment.

Empire is a staple of entertainment for many of the neighbor youth as well as the adults who love to show that kid inside of them. Empire Skating Rink needs to be preserved as an Historical Landmark and not be shut down just for profits. Don't you think this country has enough of that going on already? What will the neighborhood children have to occupy them. Most parks and AFFORDABLE recreational facilities have long been taken away. Weigh the options and see what would really be the true benefit to closing Empire, one of the most historical skate venues in the world. Think outside the box with compassion to the community and not with your pockets and boardroom meetings, where some sit and make decisions without having the slightest clue as to the impact in which their decision will have on the community and also to thousands who travel to gain the EMPIRE SKATING EXPERIENCE!

Empire should be listed as a 'Historic Landmark' sustaining and promoting good values for the community. A place to enhance the mind, body, and soul, not to mention providing a place for the younger crowd to be constructive, and be off the streets...
EMPIRE IS A LANDMARK.......YOU DON'T CLOSE A LANDMARK !!!!! IF IT'S NOT 2 LATE.......WHAT WILL IT TAKE???? EVEN IF YOUR NOT A TRUE ROLLER.......SHOW YOUR SUPPORT. PASSION + SKILLS + SKATING = EMPIRE !!!
