TO: KATHARINE JEFFERTS SCHORI, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church (USA)
Dear Bishop Schori:
We, the undersigned Christians, by the authority of the divinely inspired Scriptures (2 Tim. 3:16) do hereby extend to you and the entire governing body of your church the following adjuration (Eze. 33:6).
First and foremost, we beseech you* to search the Scriptures (Jn. 5:39, 2 Tim. 2:15) and correct the direction of the ECUSA from apostasy (1 Cor. 9:27, Tit. 1:16, 2 Cor. 13:5, 2 The. 2:3) back to biblical orthodoxy (Mat. 24:35, Mk. 13:31, Lk. 21:33). We acknowledge that differing interpretations of God's Word have caused division among Protestant believers in the past, however, as Christians we must universally affirm the deity of Jesus Christ, and that He is, singularly, the Way and that there is no way to the Father but by Him (Jn. 10:7-9, Jn. 14:6, 1 Tim. 2:5). The Nicene Creed, the most widely accepted creed in Christianity, affirms the same. Your denial of this truth in your refusal to affirm Christ as the “only name by which any person may be saved,” has placed your denomination outside the bounds of true Christianity. Therefore, we humbly beseech the ECUSA to repeal this decision to refuse the affirmation of Jesus Christ’s Name as the “only name by which any person may be saved.”
In the event that you decide not to take such appropriate action as suggested above, we, the undersigned Christians, would most solemnly entreat you to remediate the damage you have done to the cause of Christ by taking the following course of action, to wit: Insomuch as you have chosen to deny Christ (Heb. 2:11, Mk. 8:38, Lk. 9:26, Rom. 1:16, Rom. 10:11, Phi. 1:20), we would therefore adjure you to remove the terms “Jesus”, “Christ”, and “Christian”, as well as the symbol of the cross from all your messages, doctrinal statements, websites, signage, publications, et cetera — thenceforth refraining from associating your organization with these terms and the symbol of the cross, as we Christ-affirming Christians oppose having our Lord misrepresented by an apostate religion falsely appropriating the symbols, accoutrements, and sacred Name of Christian.
