All members of the Bruins Nation have great admiration for the man on a personal level, but as far as being the head football coach at a major university he is truely a genuine failure. All one has to do is compare his first season to this one. WHERE IS THE PROGRESS? For all of you who defend his coaching based on his 10 - 2 season last year, don't forget that if it weren't for the heroics of Drew Olson and other members of the offense, we could have very easily been 7 - 4 or even 6 - 5. Last years Arizona and USC games show just how lucky we had been in all of those other games. In any case, this year a more realistic assessment of team play and the level of coaching. We will probably end up 5 - 7 or 4 - 8. Its time for UCLA to stop viewing itself as only a "basketball school" and playing second fiddle to USC football. UCLA is a great school in a great location with a rich football heritage. The Howland hire proves that all you need is a proven and experienced coach and the wins and recruits will follow. Dan Guerrero I hope you are listening. UCLA deserves first rate football and basketball programs at the same time. And we can with a wise choice by you. Don't let Ben Olson's talents go to waste the next two years! |

| 339 | In addition to all the above, the 10 - 2 season was a FLUKE with LUCKY LAST MINUTE wins. Not the result of solid football (just look at the humiliation we took by USC that year). Forget about the fact that OUR new Bruin NFL players from that team are making a BIGGER IMPACT ON SUNDAYS, than USC's NFL guys from the same game! Dorrell is an articulate spokesperson. Perhaps a U.S. Ambassador someday. But NOT a football coach. |
