As an alum of this great institution, I am appalled at the lack of urgency of the football program. It seems that every year there is one excuse or another. When sports reports are stating that last year's team was the most overrated 9 win team in the history of college football and this year's team is just deplorable it really makes me wonder why there hasn't been a change already.

Enough is enough.
I can't handle losing to SC any longer.

UCLA needs to PAY to get a top notch Head coach and the stay he selects to bring in with him, e.g. Butch Davis. It's high time the Administration at UCLA stops trying to land a former Bruin player or former Bruin Coach as it's next HC ..... only because they could get him cheaply.
Get him out of here, He is a good guy but can not get the job done.
As a son of a Bruin Alum and for an individual who has been going to games and cheering for the Bruins since a child in the late 50's, I have never been as discouraged about the course of the program since the Pepper Rodgers era. Karl seems to be a quality yopung man and I know that he loves his university, but we need a coach with additional strengths and characteristics to truly be successful in the years to come. Some folks may be saying I want perfection! That is not the case. I just want progress, creativity and a level of intensity consistent with the nature of the game and in keeping with the intensity that we seem to be able to manifest in our other programs. Thank you for taking the time to consider my thought and observations.

It is a disgrace to watch our crosstown rival build an NFL team and we are stuck on mediocrity. Please hire a coach known as a proven winner and recruiter who can finally give the Pac-10 a run for its money. You struck gold with Ben Howland........you struck out with Karl Dorrell..........just FIX IT!!!!
We need to hire a new coach. I nominate Steve Kragthorpe as possibly the best available potential candidate.
Please fire Karl Dorrell for the reasons listed above, and many more. Thank you.

Karl Dorrell is just Steve Lavin version 2.0
I agree with all of the above.

DG As you have with the UCLA Basketball & Baseball Programs, it is time to place your DNA on the Football Program. We have all the confidence that you will do the right thing for UCLA.
10 and 2 last year doesn't look that bad. It speaks for the talent of our players, not the coaching.
This nightmare must end. I will refrain from donating any money until Coach Dorrell is removed. Sincerely, John W. Lam, Esq.

Mr. Guerrero, Karl Dorrell just isn't capable of leading UCLA's football program to winning seasons. I'm sure he's a nice man with good morals, values and ethics but he just isn't much of a football coach. He'd probably make a good position coach but as a head coach he clearly doesn't have what it takes. Please take this petition seriously. There truly is a LOT of displeasure out there about UCLA football these days.
Although coach is very good at standing on the sidelines doing nothing, I think that the head coach should actually be able to do something useful, like coach the team. Because of that need, Dorrell needs to go.

Dan, its time to act.
If there was any other way to get a better football coach, I would prefer it.
There is absolutely NO REASON for UCLA football NOT to be a top-10 team (nationally) EVERY YEAR. The alumni base is there, the $ is clearly there, in addition to the market (L.A.) Why is it that the likes of Miami, Florida, FSU, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, and now once again USC (among others), always find themselves vying for a national championship?? While it is true that programs such as Alabama, Oklahoma, Nebraska (among others) have fallen or have not measured up in recent years, theirs is truly a hiatus. One EXPECTS them to rebound and battle for national championship status once more. But the problem here -- with the UCLA football program -- is that NO ONE (esp. out here on the East Coast, I live in D.C. now) expects UCLA to compete for anything. Even within the Pac-10, UCLA is now an afterthought, much less on the national scale. I recall 1988, 1997, and 1998 as the only years in recent memory when the Bruins have been knocking on potential national championship doors, only to fall. We were almost there, but once again the dreaded 'Gutty Little Bruins' title was bestowed upon us... we tried hard, fought hard, the Bruins were 'gutty' and all, but they never quite got there. NEVER arrived. The only time this program won a national title, it was SHARED with another program. We've had ONE Heismann winner in our near 100 years of existence. This is shameful. I was a Bruin fan prior to being a student at UCLA (1989-94)... I remember cheering the Bruins on when I was in high school, and it seems to me now, two decades later that nothing has changed. Sure we beat SC eight consecutive times at one point, reached the Rose Bowl a couple times (only to lose both times), and were a top-three team once or twice... but our goal, always seems to be to either simply win the Pac-10 (which we haven't done in nearly a decade), or settle for a meaningless bowl game (only to lose more of them than win them recently). What gives??? Things need to change. As the petition above states, we cannot settle for the likes of Terry Donahue, Karl Dorrell or some other no-name coach (with all due respect to Messrs Donahue and Dorrell whom I am sure had/have the best intentions, but surely not the fire required for the job -- and I exclude Toledo from this list because he at least brought national stature to the program for two consecutive years). We need someone with gravitas, who is serious about not only rebuilding the program but maintaining it as a top-level, nationally known and respected (and even revered) football program. I close with this (and I appreciate your patience with my polemic here... )... Imagine the Rose Bowl filled to capacity (100,000 +) EVERY football game (like those other clowns across town)... don't just simply imagine the revenue, but imagine a sea of blue and gold... of decades-worth of alums returning to watch a national championship team take the field. Imagine the band playing its heart out so that everyone in Pasadena can here the Bruin fight song. This would incite fear and dread into the minds of opponents, and awe for our players, recruits, fans and alumni. Just imagine. Why can't this be achieved? What is holding us back? I have seen some UGLY losses in last few years (3 of the four last SC games), the Arizona game last year, the five-game losing streak under Dorrell during his first year, being shut out at home a few years back... losing to SC seven straight years (and counting...)... and, please don't get me started on the Notre Dame game in South Bend this year. What a horrible, horrible TRAGEDY that was... A game that was not only winnable, but one in which the Bruins could have DOMINATED. This isn't just an execution problem, it is now psychological... our players expect to lose... our alums expect it too. That's what is sad about all of this. It's a wretched state in which the football program finds itself. Either way, think about it hard. Ponder what the thousands of us are saying.... but in doing so let us act and more importantly let's put this all behind us and aim to win! Why can't we do this? We need to do something about this problem, and yes, it IS a problem, NOW. As always (despite the utter frustration)... Go Bruins! Thank you. Walter S. Montano Class of 1994
AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
There is only one answer: Rick Neuheisel He can recruit, has energy / passion, takes risk and will compete at @ National Championship level. He wants the job!!! This is the only person that can compete with USC. I will not attend anymore games. Bob Toledo would have taken us to new heights by now and he was unfairly treated for someone that put us on the map. I cannot take that lost look on the sideline anymore. Punting from the USC 35 & 40 to the number one offense in the country said it all. I knew then this hire was not going to work. It is Donahue JR all over again with playing soccer and not football. My family and friends will not be attending any games until there is a change. Roland Culhno Class of 82

I have been a loyal fan since the Tommy Prothro days, its time we had a coach that will attract at the very least our alumni such as Wyndel Tylers son who is going to Sc. They should never get away from our program. One more comment it tears me up to see Ken Norton Jr on the sidelines wearing that crappy dead red color!!!!! THAT SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN TO UCLA NEVER
