Karl Dorrell is repeat of Lavin. Good guy, decent recruiter, bad coach. He can get players good enough to win big games, but he's not good enough to coach the team to consistent success. I wish Dorrell the best, but he's not the right man for UCLA football.
Dorrell - You are the mother of all chokers! Adios!
Well, I just watched us lose to a 6-6 FSU team, after beating #2 USC. Looks enough like Lavin to me.
KD is a sweetheart, but he's inconsistent and spineless. Poor coaching/motivation is the only way you can explain beating a #2 USC team one week only to fall flat on your face in a bowl game against arguably the most pathetic Florida State team we've seen since Bowden's inaugural season. Bye!
The USC game was an aberration. Maybe the whole PAC 10 is an aberration this year. But this "Embarrassment Bowl" loss to FSU wasn't! Inept, conservative play calling once again, and a team that looked like it checked out of the hotel after three quarters. Where's the enthusiasm, the confidence, the guts to get it done??? Pathetic! I'm tired of turning my TV off! UCLA needs a coach who isn't comatose on the sidelines! My cat could coach a better game!
Running game is averaging over 6 yard per play in the first half against FSU. What does the brain surgeon do? Start throwing. I give up. I'm looking for a new team to root for.
Nice Guy, Mediocre coach. 4 years of suffering is enough.

I turn 60 on March 1st 2007. All I want is to wake up on that day with anyone but Dorrell in charge of the UCLA football program. DUMP DORRELL
If you want a top notch football program always competing for a major bowl, recruiting top prep players, winning Pac-10 championships then DUMP DORRELL. If you want a mediocre football program then keep Dorrell.
Please can this guy - he's way too conservative and lackadaisical, doesn't seem to care either way whether we win or lose. Overall - he just isn't at the level that a Division I coach should be at. He shows no passion, he doesn't lead, and he doesn't inspire - period. Four years is more than enough time for upward progress. A 1.5 million dollar annual salary evidently isn't enough money to justify showing up at the pep rally for the team he coaches either for some reason....unlike Peter Carroll.

No offense to Mr. Dorrell...
Not another dime until Dorrell is gone. Not another dime!

The lack of aggressiveness on 4th and 2 in the second quarter was typical of the conservative approach of dorrell. Again the whole game was typical of dorrell's entire tenure, one step forward, one step back, having the lead at halftime only to blow it in the second half etc. But one thing that really got to me were his postgame comments when he said he was proud of the team's effort through 3 quarters. last time i checked there were 4 quarters in a football game. Since when is 75% effort enough???? It seems as if dorrell is happy with mediocrity which is why he must go.

UCLA CLass of 1990 and 1997. I have been around UCLA since 1985 through 2002 [yes, a lot of education and training] and have seen coaches come and go. This guy is another Lavin, he is not as good as Toledo [we should've kept that guy if KD is the new standard] or what is more logical if Toledo was not good enough then the performance of KD warrants a "pink slip" ASAP. Or should we be looking at Guerrero himself - where is Peter Dalis?
Class of 1986
UCLA alumnus, 1997
I am a UCLA alum and current grad student at Harvard Law. Karl Dorrell is not the right man to be coaching my alma mater.

Karl Dorrell must go. He simply does not instill the confidence to win big games. Please do not put the Alumni through this agony for another season. Many UCLA faithful I have spoken with are reluctant to purchase season tickets to watch the imploding Karl Dorrell show. Even worse, Dorrell consistently seems at a loss to explain how the team gets beat so badly when they falter. This lack of leadership is not going to get this program back to respectability. They spent this whole season unranked, and they will certainly start next season the same way. Please do the right thing and dispose of Karl Dorrell before another agonizing season is upon us. One win is simply not enough of a reason to stick with a predicably subpar coach.

Class of 1998. I stopped buying season tickets and only go to 1 or 2 games a year now. When I was a student under Terry Donahue we NEVER lost to USC, played hard, and won bowl games. Now we can't even win the Toilet Bowl! Karl Dorrell and his coaching staff are not capable of bringing UCLA Football back as a national contender. I have even stopped donating to UCLA. Only when Karl Dorrell and his coaching staff are fired will I start to donate again to UCLA and purchase season tickets.
fire dorrell save our football team
I love Karl and I think that one day he will make a fine coach. However, as a Bruin alum, I have suffered too many forehead-smacking, fist-clenching, groan-eliciting losses to continue standing idly by. I will always love KD for giving me 12.2.06, and I wish him the best in his new assistant head coaching job. UCLA deserves a coach who puts his players in a position to make plays and win ball games. Soft cover-2? Ace set draws on 1st down? 3-runs-between-the-tackles-and-out! Dump screens (and nothing but) on 3rd-and-long! Orders to punt the ball out of bounds during the biggest upset of your tenure and an eked-out victory because your punter ignored them and boomed a clock-killing, game-clinching kick of the century?!! I deserve better. Bruin fans deserve better. Karl deserves better. Let him leave with his dignity and a chance to move on and learn from minds more experienced and accustomed to winning than his own. I will not accept another 7-6 season and a loss in The Utterly Forgetta-bowl. I and the rest of the loyal Bruin alumni will not continue to shell out hard(UCLA degree)-earned money Mr. Guerrero, to watch a team of gifted athletes handcuffed by the conservative calls of a man who coaches as if trying desperately to NOT LOSE his job. We want a man (or woman) who WILL WIN. I implore you: Hire a hard-nosed, proved winner as OC next season and help Karl and UCLA reach a BCS game. Put our fine student-athletes in position to WIN. Then, Karl can move on to the NFL, and you will have re-established the legitimacy of UCLA football in the world's eyes. USC learned to take our team seriously, Dan. When will you?
KD has been given plenty of chances we all wanted him to succeed but he hasn't it's time for him to seek training elsewhere. What is needed is a coach willing to take chances to win at all costs not KD. Look at last nighs Tostitos Bowl Boise State coach Chris Petersen, who remains undefeated as a head coach is willing to let it all hang out and go for W's.

The loss to Florida State was the last straw. Losing any momentum in recruiting and "feeling good" going into next year was, sadly, not a suprise.

The Emerald Bowl fiasco was the last straw for this Bruin, although I'm happy to hear from Coach Dorrell that the program is still "heading in the right direction" (again) and that the loss was not for lack of "effort" (again). I believe Steve Mariuchi is still available...
Dorrell must go!
Mr. Guerrero, I, and the devoted UCLA fans, think it is time for a change. One of that is replacing Karl Dorrell because were not going anywhere; I mean we have pretty good talent and recruiting but the coach is really the problem especially on offense. 4 years is too long considering UCLA is commited to excellence. One suggestion I might say is to go after Larry Coker. Thank you for listening. Hope you make the right choice.

Not an alumni, but a lifelong Bruin fan. Didn't think Dorrell could make me long for the Bob Toledo days, but he did.
At first, I thought hiring Karl was a good move. Mistakenly, I had thought that he would bring some good old-fashioned enthusiasm and Bruin pride to the program. Instead, he has brought laissez-faire preparation and acceptance of mediocrity. Football is a game of emotion. Our coach should have some. Karl's a nice guy, but not a good head coach for what should be a major program. I'd like to see a head coach who is unafraid to stand toe to toe with the Pete Carrolls and Jim Tressels of the world.

Myself and fellow alumni refuse to attend any UCLA football games or donate a penny until Dorrell is gone and pride is restored in UCLA football. Lavin was fired, and we landed the greatest coach since the great John Wooden. Football deserves better.
