Dan, it's time to start the search for a successor to Dorrell (if you haven't already). Karl might be an outstanding assistant coach but the head man has to be outwardly enthusiastic and capable of building a first rate staff. That has not been the case with KD. It's been enough time to build a winning D1 program...it's time to move on.
Dan, I have been a true blue and gold UCLA fan since 1975. I echo most of the reasons to fire Karl Dorrell. The thruth of the matter is that Karl is a great guy, but he is not Our Football Coach! He would make a better academic coordinator for us. Please hire us a coach that holds the players to a higher standard and play with heart. A coach with a vision and with immediate results(yes, immediate, I don't aggree that it takes time to be good- it is just an excuse for no accountability that the job is not getting done). I know that you can remember Digger Phelps and how his vision and discipline affected his players. If you can't find a coach like like that, I will do for you, I guarantee you I will instill the pride and leadership our football program is so desperate for.
I thought Dan wanted to win. KD blows and is a disgrace to the school. Fire his ass.
Hire a big name coach, we want to be football fans but dorrell makes it so hard.

he was good for the integrity of the program but he's a lousy head coach. we need to start winning and being competitive. He is the Steve Lavin of UCLA football.

Mr. Guerrero......it is disheartening to watch what Bruin football has become. I was thinking of renewing my season tickets next year in addition to becoming a booster but to throw monetary support to this coaching staff.........is unacceptable. We need an aggressive, high profile coach who DEMANDS results....are we ever going to get him???? It hurts me as I have been a UCLA fan since 1970 and have not wavered......I am now wavering.

Class of 1964, Bruin fan in regular attendance since Red Sanders. This is the worst I can remember, don't agree off field problems have been cleared up, 6 current or former recent former players charged with felonies in recent months.
Tired of Dorrell's blank dumbfounded look on the sideline. Dan....can we steal Pete Carroll from USC???
He is obviously doing a poor job.
The mediocrety have gone long enough.
Its hard to have hope for the future when Dorrell is the coach.
Dump Dorrell!
Dorrell is the worst thing that ever happened to the program
Class of 1968
Alumni Class of 1997. I am currently a Physician because of the education that I had received at UCLA. But it does not take a doctor to figure out that KD is not the right coach for the football program. I will no longer buy tickets, nor will I ever donate a single dime until we hire a better coach. There are plenty of good candidates out there. Let get one while they're still on the market. One name: Butch Davis.
Dan we deserve better than this

It is truly embarrasing to see the level that this program has sunk to in football. If U.S.C. can hire a coach to take them to the next level why can't U.C.L.A. I've been a fan for 41 years and it's about time the Bruins compete for and win National Championships like the Trojans. Give the Trojans credit ; they get it. Why is it so difficult to get it right at U.C.L.A. Come on Dan Guerrero; what was all that talk about firing out and competing for Pac-10 Championships.

Coach Dorrell has had the time to show what he can do, and he just hasn't succeeded. It is clear that he never will. I am sure he works hard, and wants to do well, but so does every other coach. I graduated from UCLA in 1986, and I have been a Bruin football fan all of my life. It pains me to watch this program become mediocre at best. You gave Karl a chance, and he hasn't capitlized. Let's face it. Last year's 10-2 record was a mirage. Half of those wins should have been losses. Please do something now rather than later so we can right the ship.
If I got 2 degrees from UCLA, do I get to vote twice?

Karl Dorrell is a good man doing a bad job. Honor him for cleaning up the off field problems, and replace him to clear up his on field problems. I am a 1966 graduate of UCLA. I've held season tickets in both basketball and football and routinely make contributions to the University's academic programs. I cannot say that I will "punish" the university by withholding contributions on the academic side, but I will feel less generous.
I concur and support this petition. I believe Coach Dorrell to be a good man, but the wrong man at the wrong time for the UCLA Football Program.

Dear Dan Guerrero, I am a longtime UCLA sports fan. I used to go to football games with my dad (a faculty member and season ticket holder) in the late 70s. We sat high up in the Coliseum, where attendance was considered good if half the place was filled. The UCLA program was adrift and mediocre at the time, living in the shadow of basketball and USC football. I'd see USC games played in the same stadium and was envious of their obvious superiority. They had winning teams, thrilling finishes, competitive greatness. They had respect. The Karl Dorell tenure reminds me of that dismal era, pre-Rose Bowl move, when UCLA was adrift as its crosstown rival flourished. Don't get me wrong: I also remember the heydays of the 80s and 90s when the tables were turned and UCLA owned USC and was a perenniel Top 10 team. But you as Atheltic Director are in the danger of institutionalizing the present mediocrity by retaining Karl Dorell as head football coach. It's okay to acknowledge a mistake, Mr. Guerrero. You got snowed by Karl Dorell. He may interview well, but he is a mediocre football mind who has no business coaching at this level at this time. Now is the moment to restore the credibility of the UCLA football program and reach for greatness. YOU CAN DO IT! Once you bring in a football coach of stature, bearing and proven ability, you will be rewarded and remembered by the legions of fans who want UCLA to reach its enormous potential in all fields. This includes the football team, which should be in the hunt for Pac-10 titles and major bowl games, if not the national championship, every single year. I wish you luck in this endeavor and hope you take this note in the supportive spirit in which it was written. Sincerely, Dan Levy San Francisco

His time should be over.

It's time for Dorrell to go. I'm sure there will be plenty of coaches who will be fired this year that can replace him. It's time to get our Bruins back into the national spotlight and to beat SC which we can never do with Dorrell.

After last year's 10-2 season I really thought UCLA football was going places and Mr Dorrell was coming to grips with his job. Yes, a lot of those wins were comebacks against mediocre-to-awful squads but they were wins and I eagerly looked forward to 2006. Sadly, this team has become a mediocre shell similar to the teams that were there when I was on campus (the end of Mr Toledo's reign and the beginning of Mr Dorrell's). There is no reason why this team should be so awful. We have a QB that has a genuine shot at winning a Heisman down the line with talented receivers to throw to and great backs to hand off to. We have a defense which is as good as last year's was bad. The talent is there and UCLA can get top recruits (look at how MJD is doing in the NFL). There is no reason why this team shouldn't be in the title hunt, undefeated or with one loss. There is no reason why this team lost to Notre Dame. There is no reason why this team keeps flopping so hard when up against ranked squads. I could go on, but there is no point. I have lost faith in Mr Dorrell's ability to take this team to where it could and should go. If this team was 10-0 or 9-1 Mr Dorrell would certainly and deservedly be getting credit for the success so he should take the blame right now. It is time for a change.
I am starting to lose interest in the ffotball program as a whole. This is worse than just being angry at the coaches....
Bruin Bench member - Not renewing if Karl Dorrell is still the coach
Its time for a change!
If you want higher standards, you need to have higher standards for the coach. If you want mediocrity, please, just tell us so I can stop wasting time and money following the team.
FIRE HIM DAN!!! ITS TIME!!!
