As a graduate, I think it is absolutely ridiculous that a university that prides itself on excellence and achievement can maintain a coach who has attained neither. The university should demand the best in all facets of its operation, from the students, facilities, faculty and coaches. It is an embarrassment to allow the most high profile sports team at UCLA to whither away in mediocrity. The athletic department owes it to the name of the university to hire a competent, successful head coach.

Mr. Guerrero...UCLA students and alumni all deserve a chance to cheer for a team that is well coached and prepared to play our Pac-10 competition. The players deserve better than the preparation and coaching they have received under the current staff and we need you to make a change now so the future of UCLA football can be realized.

I agree with the petition.... However, how cool would it be if people could become this concerned and involved about issues that are much more important than football. And it is just football.
Sadly, he has been out-coached in every game this year, as evidenced by the deplorable 3rd quarters. He is obviously being out-coached at half when opposing coaches successfully alter their game plans.
ALTHOUGH IT MAY BE DIFFICULT TO FIRE AN EMPLOYEE, THERE IS A RESPONSIBITY THAT UCLA OWES TO THE GREATER UCLA COMMUNITY. ITS PORTANT FOR THE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT TO EARN A NET INCOME IN EXCESS OF $12 MILLION DOLLARS IN ORDER TO SUPPORT OTHER ATHLETIC PROGRAMS OF THE UNIVERSITY. COACH DURRELL'S TENURE IS ENDANGERING THAT SOURCE OF FUNDS. IF HE CONTINUES IN HIS ROLE AS HEAD COACH, THE DAMAGE HE IS CREATING MAY BE FELT FOR YEARS. NO ONE CAN PREDICT HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE FOR THE NEXT COACH TO RETRIEVE THIS PROGRAM FROM THE DEPTHS THAT IT IS SURE TO REACH IF KARL DORRELL REMAINS IN CHARGE OF UCLA FOOTBALL. GOOD ADMINISTRATION WOULD DEMAND THAT NOTHING LESS THAN EXCELLANCE IS ACCEPTABLE IN A HEAD FOOTBALL COACH. ALMOST ANYONE CAN MAKE THIS CALL.

How can UCLA ever hope to recruit any competitive players with the record of the past 4 years?
Where is the commitment to excellence?

Terry Donahue disciple. Sit on the lead and let the defense take control. Why score a touchdown when you are in field goal range?
Dick Vermiel or Butch Davis. PLEASE!!!!!!
UCLA football should be treated the same as UCLA basketball. The type of incompetence Dorrell displays would not be tolerated in basketball.
With much respect to Karl Dorrell as an alumni and gentleman, we NEED a better football coach. BEAT SC! UCLA, Econ - 1998
Life long Bruin Fan... Loved Dorrel as a player... Welcomed him as head coach... But now, he must go.

We are tired of losing, especially to USC. I suggest that Norm Chow and Jeff Fisher be at the very top of your list to replace, De-De-De Dorrell. Comprende?

im tired of being embarassed at the game!

He constantly makes horrible calls, can't figure the whole clock management thing out yet and simply can't get it done.
I have attended UCLA football games since the late 60's. I have been a season ticket holder since Pepper Rogers' first season. I was quite displeased with the hiring of someone with no head coaching experience. It is obvious Dorrell was not the right choice. After almost four full seasons, he has won just six more games than he has lost. In three of his four seasons, he will be at or near .500. It's obvious that last year was a fluke. Cut your losses now by firing Dorrell, & get a real coach. 40,000 empty seats at the last game should tell you the fans are not backing the team. The hiring of a proven top notch head coach will fill the Rose Bowl. Extra butts in the stands means extra $$$. If we happen to get lucky enough to beat U$C, he should still be fired. One victory over the trOJans or one good season such as last year, does not make a great coach, but three out of four bad seasons does make a bad coach. After the embarrassing lost to U$C last year, I was ready to cancel my season tickets, but my wife intervened. If we lose to them again this year, wind up near .500, & you don't replace the coach, we have both agreed to not renew next season.
before it's too late
I have been a die-hard UCLA fan since the late 60's/early 70's from the Upper Midwest and I want the program to become a perennial national football power. Finishing 6-7, 6-6, or 4-8 or NOT acceptable results.
The only time Dorrell looks good is with his cap on.
'04 Alumni.

Dorrell needs to go NOW!

Mr. Dorrell is a good guy, and one day he may be a good coach. Unfortunately, today, he is far from being that coach.
Maybe we should think about hiring Steve Mariucci.
It's time to elevate the football program to the level of the basketball program. I'm sorry Mr. Dorrell has not worked out, but the proof is in the results and product.

It is time to get rid of Karl. UCLA will never be competitive as long as he is still here. Dan Guerrero must have some courage and hire Butch Davis or Steve Mariuchi.
The team plays with no heart. Where is the defense?

Ucla deserves a better football program then what is currently being on display

Its time!!!
