| 102 | Andrew Rushby | We used to travel passed this ship as kids, and would always look out for it. Although for most people in Wales, it is the equivilent of America's Statue of liberty, I would like it to be restored |

| 111 | GORDON BURNELL | At least if the owners wont sell the Duke they should be made to keep the ship in good order as it is the first thing thousands of visitors to Wales see { not a good advert } what a great youth project / hostel the Duke would make. |
| 112 | Daniel Cumisky | See sense. Don't destroy it. Its been there ever since I was a kid, such a magnificant sight. It would be a hell of a shame to see it go for scrap. |
| 113 | Anonymous | I WENT ON THIS SHIP ONCE A MONTH AS A LITTLE GIRL WITH MY PARENTS......WE LIVED IN MANCHESTER AND CAME UP TO THE SHIP TO SEE THE SHOWS AND VISIT THE SHOPS..........THE ONE THING THAT STICKS IN THE BACK OF MY MIND IS I WAS SAT IN THE BAR WHEN I WAS 6 AND THERE WAS A MAN PERFORMING EATING FIRE.....I THOUGHT IT WAS SO COOL..........MY MUM LOVED THE SHIP , BUT SADLY LAST YEAR PASSED AWAY.......PLEASE DONT TAKE THE SHIP AWAY AS WELL......... |
| 114 | Travis Cooper | |
| 115 | Dewi Jones | My Grandfather was one of the mostyn dock pilots who helped guide the Duke of Lancaster to its current resting place. It would be a shame to see such a special local landmark dissappear. |
| 116 | Tony Grubb | It would be a shame if such a ship was scrapped being the last and all. we are nostalgic nation so spare some for her and don't let be scrapped |

| 131 | Anonymous | This ship was the last rivetted plate ship to be built at Harland and Wolfe Belfast. That ought to be enough to put her on the historical ships register |
| 132 | daniel mills | this ship should be saved as we live in such a totalitarian country that sees no need to preserve anything just to save a few pounds if things carry on this way there will be nothing left from our past . they say move forward , i say WHY? |
| 133 | Gerard Lennon | I'd love to see the old girl saved, although I think this will only ever be a pipe dream. I sailed in her on a number of occasions and make a yearly trip up to see her - always a sad day given her failing condition. I'll help to scape the rust off 'though and can turn out some pretty neat woodwork if restoring her inside ever gets underway. I, like many, wish you luck in your endeavours on the Duke's behalf. Best wishes, Gerry |

This is the sorry state that magnificent Harland and Wolff ferry the Duke of Lancaster is in today after spending 26 years beached off on an estuary in Wales.
This is the sorry state that magnificent Harland and Wolff ferry the Duke of Lancaster is in today after spending 26 years beached off on an estuary in Wales.
The ship, which has experienced renewed interest in recent weeks because of the discovery of an original painting of it, was tracked down by Bangor man Glenn Thompson, whose father Arthur used to work as a cabin steward when it operated on the Belfast-Heysham ferry route.
He captured this photograph of the derelict and deteriorating state it sits in, wedged in a sand bank on the River Dee.
Mr Thompson called on authorities in Northern Ireland to bring the ship back to Belfast for refurbishment.
"I consider this ship to be more a part of our heritage than even the Titanic," he said.
"It was built in Belfast and then spent more than 20 years sailing the city's people over to Heysham. She was a tremendously well-known ship, along with its sister vessels, the Duke of Argyll and the Duke of Rothesay.
"It should really be brought over to the Ulster Folk and Transport and Museum and put on display. It's a very important part of our shipping history."
Duke of Lancaster - the 1,540th ship built by Harland & Wolff - was launched 50 years ago this year. When her days as a ferry were over, she was bought by a Liverpool company, Empirewise, which planned her to be used as a static ship in Wales, not far from the port of Mostyn.
The ferry arrived at her new home in Wales on August 10, 1979, and has remained there ever since. Her intended use as a static leisure centre was short-lived.
Mr Thompson said he was "greatly saddened" to see the ship in such bad condition. |
| 135 | DAVID | I fell for this ship when i first viewed her when i was only 6 yrs old,i have always regarded her as MY SHIP.24 years later i still think shes a beauty.SAVE HER.Give her back her pride and dignity.SAVE HER. |
| 136 | JOHN MULLINS | I am ex Merchant Navy and my first ship was The Duke of Rothasay in the early 60,s, where I was the bridge boy and my Brother David Mullins was a PO. It would be great if the Lancaster could be saved! |
| 137 | Ian Duckworth | |
| 138 | annette dale | I feel strangely drawn to this ship whenever i see her. My parents tell me that they took me aboard her when i was tiny but unfortunately i cannot remember. I can remember being in the back of the family car with my siblings on our way to prestatyn and my dad would say 'first one to spot the fun ship gets 10p' I think he said this when we were playing up- we were only about 10 miles from home in stoke!!
If i won the lottery i would fix her. I would REALLY LOVE to go onboard to take a look around....xx |
