On February 24, 2004, our president stepped up to a microphone for the sole purpose of declaring his support for a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage. If the president is successful in getting this passed, GLBT citizens will be denied all Federal rights that come with marriage.
We are citizens of this country who pay taxes. Since we cannot stop paying taxes without breaking the law, we have created another way to make a difference.
The presidents declaration, along with many other discriminatory actions being taken around the country, motivated us to organize a National One Day Dropout on Friday, October 8, 2004, in which we are asking people to do some or all of the following three things in order to show our economic presence in this country in a measureable way:
1) Do not purchase anything
2) Do not use your cell phones
3) Take a vacation day from work
Our objective is to affect productivity and the bottom line. We all know that when those two things are impacted, people take notice.
Participation in this event is simple. It is possible for anyone to participate whether they are in or out of the closet because you can tailor the participation to what suits your situation best. Being a part of all 3 modes of participation is ideal, but is certainly not required.
By signing below, you are showing that you plan to participate on that day. Send this to ALL of your friends and ask each of them to sign up as well. We need large numbers of signatures to show support for this event.
