The petition

It has been nearly 30 years since a new Public Arena has been constructed within the City of Toronto. Many of the existing facilities are antiquated and in various states of disrepair. Don Mills Civitan Arena was built during the 1950's with funds provided by the Don Mills Civitan Service Club. Today, the club is once again willing to contribute it's time, effort and millions to dollars towards constructing a new state of the art 3-Rink facility at the intersection of Don Mills Road and Highway 401.

Such a project would provide a much needed economic boost during the construction phase. Once completed, it would be of great benefit to the surrounding community and to the City as a whole.

In spite of the available building site, generous private funding and obvious benefits of the proposal, the project has nonetheless encountered opposition. Those opposed to the project are small in number but vocal and well connected and have so far succeeded in frustrating the efforts of the Club to move the project forward.
