This petitions first and formost objective is to Demand that the Detroit Public School System and its Board of Directors immediately cease and desist any and all staff reductions as well as those parts of the budget that affect the current staff and the current "contract" that it has with its teachers. As well as any and all options you feel necessary and feel should be utilized prior to the completion of this current school year. If you want to reorganize every year do it during the summer. You are not fulfilling your promise to educate our kids. You are merely prolonging your careers as well as using our kids and resources to further your own careers and NOT to the reality that "none" of you will actually be in our system when and if any of our current preschoolers Graduate from High School let alone 8th grade, let alone 5th for that fact. So jump onboard cut YOUR pay and benefits, voluntarily, by 20% as well as your current staff by 2%. This applies to all of those that have less than 5 years seniority, as calculated in the teachers contract that was in effect when you were hired, and are not currently covered by a legally binding collective bargaining agreement, and your job ellimination will "directly" affect students. |
