As fantasy baseball managers and avid Major League Baseball (MLB) fans, we the undersigned believe that it is in the best interests of Delmon Young, the Devil Rays, MLB, and fantasy baseball managers everywhere (particularly those with #1 waiver priorities) for Delmon Young to be called up to the big-leagues in this, the 2005 MLB season.
From a financial perspective, we believe the D-Rays stand to gain nothing by waiting until 2006 to bring up Delmon. If called up this year, his arbitration clock will not start any earlier than it would should he start the 2006 season with the D-Rays. In fact, a September call-up would likely generate profits for the struggling club through a boost in ticket sales.
Furthermore, the uber-prospect has proven beyond reasonable doubt that he is ready for the challenge of the game at its highest level. In every aspect of the game, he has adapted, prospered, and often dominated on the field. Continuing to play in AAA will do little to further his development as a player.
Lastly, we acknowledge that this petition was borne partially out of self-interest. For many fantasy owners, Delmon Young’s talents would offer much needed help to our teams as we push towards the end of this season. For others, he represents the offensive cornerstone around which we plan to build our keeper teams.
So please, we plead to whomever this may concern in the D-Rays front office, make the right move. Bring Delmon Young up this season. |
