The petition

The whole point of this petition is to get rid of intrusive DRM. Each signer should attempt to give their view on the situation, and explain why they are signing.

DRM is a way of preventing piracy, by including code into the main data files that prevent the file being copied. This is used on all sorts of media: Movies, music and games. This petition is mainly about games.

A recent example of DRM is a game called Mass Effect. The original plan was to make each person that bought the game activate the game every 7 days to make sure that the game was a legal copy. Although this changed to a standard online actvation, THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. Too many games require the internet to run them, and those who pirate it don't need to go through these horrible and annoying measures. The people that create the pirated copy see DRM as a challenge, not a deterrent, making the whole thing useless, and DRM is hurting the legitimate users.

Therefore, we ask the publishers and developers to stop this act, and create a much more reasonable solution, one that requires no internet registration or a check every 7 days.
