751 AnonymousAnonymousCOUScurfew should be what the parents say it is and not what the government says it is.

754 AngiekamionkaILUSI personally think curfews are a waste of time. Teens are going to go out if they want to; it is up to there parent to decide a time to be home not the state. If the parent lets there child go out they should be able to. It is America we are supposed to be free. It is so much nicer outside at night then during the day. Remember what it was like to be young you wanted to go out and enjoy your life and have fun while you didn’t have as many responsibilities. Adults cause violence to. Statistics state that youth under 18 only 15 percent were arrested for violent crimes. They will find another way to act out. And you will just find another way t punish them. Cops should be stopping people under 21 from drinking and all ages from doing drugs or causing accidents, not from hanging out. How about teens who work? They wake up and go to school, then go to work they want to have time to spend with friends. Teens are arrested for coming home, perhaps a little late.

756 AnonymousAnonymousUTUSI was with a friend before curfew at a park just 10 minute walk from my house. We were talking, laying on the grass, when we both fell asleep. We woke up at about 1:30 AM, right before the cop showed up and shone his light on us. Now we both face court dates and fines that minors shouldn't have to pay and can't afford. This is a stupid law simply because teenagers just out, not disturbing anyone, aren't breaking laws. I can see wanting to keep kids "safe", but I don't need a freaking fine! This is ridiculous and needs to stop.

761 AmberEmmertzPAUSThe curfew law is a violation of our rights. HA, it reduces crime, well of course imprisoning people reduces crime. People are going to commit crimes no matter what age they are. Using a persons age to justify keeping them under lock and key is not right. This law demands that children must be in an institution or be supervised at all times until the age of eight-teen. Only than are they finally let lose, and with little idea of what it's really like. What I am getting at is that curfew is just another way to baby people. What we really need is to be taught responsiblity.

771 JosephKincaidORUSToday I purchased a ticket to go watch the midnight showing of Wanted, which soon after i find out that the state requires for me to be at home by midnight... this is completely rediculace since I payed my own good hard earned money in order to purchase this ticket in which they say I can not watch because they say so. A parent should be responcible for there childs curfew not the state.

773 AnonymousAnonymousMIUSThe cops stopped me for walking in my own neighborhood past curfew. I was cited and the officer even called in the lieutenant. This curfew thing is ridiculous.

777 Austin(Personal)CAUSI'm 15 years old, and a couple of months ago my best friend and I both got tickets for being out at 10:02 right as my best friend's dad was picking us up at the movies. Our movie ended at 9:55 I had never heard of my county having a curfew law before and the officer, who's name was Officer Cocke (Yah I know it fit him he was a dickhead) told us he didn't care and we better tell him our real information or else we would "be in a lot of trouble". Oooh so scary. Anyways I was fully prepared to give him a lot of bullshit information, but he got to my friend first and she told him all of her real information. Name, address, telephone number, and birth date. I figured I'd better tell him mine too or else she might get in trouble or I'd get in a lot for lying. So he said that we had to go to court at a specific date, and pay "$400". I got home told my dad and he didn't care he thought the law was ridiculous anyways. On the other hand, my best friend got into a lot of trouble. So a month passes and my best friend and I have to skip school since it was at school hours and drive to court which was 2 hours away just to pay a ticket. Since we were under 18 and it was for curfew we couldn't even pay online. But that was okay because my dad and I didn't even plan on paying. So we show up and you have to sign in first and apparently we were too late (even though we were half and hour early) and we would have to go at 5:00 instead of 12:00. My best friend got in at 12:00. So my dad and I caught a movie in the middle of nowhere town and killed time. A little while later my best friend called me and told me that she had pleaded guilty and had to pay $200. The funny thing is that the cop had doubled the fine when he told us how much he knew it was. She said that there were a lot of other kids in there that she recognized from my town who got the same ticket and they all pleaded guilty and had to pay $200 also. My dad and I showed up at 4:45 because we blew it and went court right into the place because we had registered earlier. We thought we were going to be screwed but right as we walked into the door some guy said my name literally the second that we walked in and I grabbed a paper and some security guard led me into another hallway. We waited awhile and eventually everyone was out with their papers and we all got led into a court room. About 6 people got called up before us and they all had parking tickets and were broke and had all these sob stories but the judge all fined them anyway. When I got called up he said "how do you plead, guilty or not guilty?" and I said "not guilty" and then I told him the story and then I also said that I didn't know why I had gotten the ticket anyways because it was for illegal gypsyism. The funny thing is that the code the cop had written down was the wrong one and it was for practicing being a gypsy or some other nonsense like that. And the judge said :well you know what the ticket was for". And I said "yes but according to the law (which I had looked up because *I rule*) anyone under 18 is allowed to be out half an hour after they get out of a cultural event that they are in and our event (movie) got out at 9:55 and we got the ticket at 10:02 so, legally I was allowed to be out." He thought about it for a minute and then knew that he was intimidating me and I was right so he said, "Okay I will let you off if you write a 5 page essay on obeying the law for minors." I was about to object because it was complete bullshit, but my dad cut me off and said, "That's fine." And then we left and everyone was sort f awed by my cleverness. (I know I sound cocky, but I'm not. Just proud. :) ) So then we got a big paper thing about what I have to write. So a good month went by and then I forgot about it, so I just opened up word and then made the columns really tiny and the font huge and double spaced and wrote some big long thing about how we should obey the tobacco laws because minors don't know the consequences of it fully and I added like 5 doctor's long quotes and was done. I found the court's fax and my dad faxed it over and we got some paper back saying we were off the hook. So basically here's what I'm saying. Cops are bored and even though they knew that we didn't deserve the ticket they still gave it to us and that's messed up. I still got away with it though SO SUCK ON THAT OFFICER COCKE! haha Anways it's a stupid law that should be removed or at least changed.

779 AnonymousAnonymousPAUSThey r nothing but crazy! They take away skateboarding, they take away sites like youtube at schools, lets go get bush and show him how we feel being treated like this; responsibility under republicans that don't know what they're doing. THEY sold us out! THEY lured us into a war that's was very unpopular! Our schools bust us when we don't stand for the pledge of alliegance! FUCK BUSH! We r not guilty underage! We r kids who want to make our country better! Its NOT a crime to skateboard nor is it for a child to live under their parents guidelines, not the governments! FUCK BUSH!!

783 AnonymousAnonymousMNUSyou no what's sad? a 14 year old getting practically tackled then dragged by his hood when I wasn't even out past curfew, some kids in my neighborhood were doing stupid stuff and guess who gets in trouble the innocent kid. its ridiculous i got cuffed and left in the back of a cop car for practically an hour while they looked for the kids that actually were doing it. It's ridiculous parent's should have the say in curfew.

791 RiversKimbroughOKUSI just got ticketed for being a passenger in a vehicle for curfew. I was locked out of my house. I locked my keys inside my vehicle. And my father was out riding his Harley. And I jumped in with my best friend until he got home with the spare set. And those bastards wrote me anyway. I'm taking it to court. It's technically a violation of the 1st Amendment rights.
792 SusanHoTXUSMy name's Susan & i'm 15. Just last night my friend & I got caught for swimming at 2 in the morning in my friend's pool. I mean what the hell? It's my friend's pool, not the POLICES. So the cops were asking for my friend's information, who is 18, and he was about to let us off until i said i was 15. Then he says "You guys are trespassing." When the pool was my FRIEND'S POOL. Cops are bullshit. They try to make teenagers like me just trying to have a late night swim with a friend have a BAD LIFE. I even got HANDCUFFED just for being out that late. Then the cop gave me a ticket & took me home. My dad wasn't mad, but my mom was trippin' like i KILLED SOMEONE. I don't even know how much the ticket is. Now I have to go to court right before school starts. I mean what the hell is summer break for if we have CURFEWS? I'm just trying to have as MUCH fun as I can before I work with my dad & before school starts. In my opinion, curfews are a cheap way to get FAST MONEY because the government knows teenagers rather hang out when everyone's sleeping. It's so much easier to hang out late at night because everything's peaceful & it's COOL outside. Honestly, putting up boundaries like that causes kids to REBEL more. Rules are meant to be broken. It's kind of FUCKED UP how the government is going to put rules on teenagers when they aren't even our parents! My parents let me stay out late, but now cause of my ticket, i can't go out anymore. Ha, a ticket for a late night swim. That's so unreasonable.
793 SusanHoTXUSAnd people from all over the country are coming to the UNITED STATES because they think it's a free country. Well the United States is bullshit. What's the difference in hanging out in the day & hanging out at night? It's just darker. And cops who enforce curfews are STUPID. They are just lonely men who jack off to pretty people like Beyonce & they think giving tickets excite their life. Ha, thanks for fucking up my life GOVERNMENT. I am AGAINST curfew. It's not fair how they put curfews on teenagers, we have FEELINGS too. We do have a say in what's wrong & what's right. It's not fair how our rights is getting taken away more & more each and everyday. Teenagers are not the problem. You ADULTS were once teenagers too. Instead of arresting people for hanging out, why don't you look for people out there who's doing real harm to the world? Like robbers & drunk drivers.
794 SamanthaKnapeOHUSThey need to let parents decide when there children should come home! Not the law. They didn't have curfew when my parents were kids, Why should we? It's not fair! They do not have a right to butt in our lives now.
795 charleshumoILUSi got caught last night at 2:45am coming from a friends house because i left my ipod there so i just went to go get it took me 5 minuets and cops caught me i say fuck curfews
796 AnonymousAnonymousVAUSI agree 100% with what you said. I got caught for curfew for walking up to 7-11 not hurting anyone or anything or breaking the law in any way(except the curfew) and I was going to spend my money at 7-11, therefore I was going to be helping the economy grow.
797 SaraHeberleinIDUSI believe that this is so true. I got harassed because I was out at 12:50 am watching the stars. I wasn't doing anything bad at all. Neither were my two girl friends. You would think that the police would have someone better to harass then 3 teenage girls wanting to see the stars.

799 ToussaintBrownVAUSI am all for this petition I think it doesn't make any sense when my friend gets a ride home from the movies from people over 18 and he still gets a curfew charge
