Ratings and attendance for Cubs games would be bolstered through Cuban's inevitable brushes with controversy with MLB and Bud Selig. He won't hesitate to criticize Selig or the players' union in regards to steroids or any other potential baseball scandal and will happily pay any fines and match each one with a charitable donation. Cuban would also not hesitate to invest in big player salaries and cross the luxury tax threshold. Cuban wants to win, and taking risks often pays off for him financially. Let's see if he has better luck with the Cubs than he did in the NBA Finals. Wouldn't it be something if in 2008, 100 years later, it was Cuban holding up a world series trophy and becoming a legend for breaking the curse of the Cubs. For a franchise that is profitable even without on field success, it's definitely worth the gamble. |
