Jessica and Matt Mantel | We strongly support this petition. We live next to the Forest Glen metro. We would very much like to be able to walk with out young son to nearby Sligo Creek, but have elected not to do so out of concern over crossing Georgia Ave.
Anonymous | I think that this is a no-brainer. The tunnel must be built. However, there must be careful planning in terms of disruption of both vehicle and pedestrian traffic while construction is underway.

Jason LaGarde | This would be great!

JOHN | Someone is going to die in this intersection, again, and the tunnel will be built eventually. So why not build the tunnel now, before that death occurs?

bobbie | please please please. i have to cross that street sometimes four times a day and i can't take it anymore!
Nirmala Benin | If we had safer access, my family would take our bikes on the metro more often rather than drive our bikes to DC.

Michael J. Schell | Far more important to me and my family than the ICC!
Ravi Venkataramani | This is a huge hazard in our neighborhood. Actually, in addition to the pedestrians at risk, motorists are at risk of causing accidents as well due to pedestrian jay walking at night. I just witnessed a near accident last night.
Anonymous | Keep it up. This is important to me and my family.
| 171 | Lesya Covert | I support efforts of the Forest Glen and larger Silver Spring community to make this place a safer place to live and travel. As one of the residents living one block away from this intersection, I constantly feel vulnerable when crossing this intersection -- whether it is by car, by bike or on foot. The situation seems only to get worse from year to year. Congestion has an impact in many manifestations, not only in terms of traffic at the intersection. It pushes irratic drivers who try to avoid busy intersection into neighboring streets full of residential homes. It creates strong environmental impact as seen in polluted air, noise levels from cars and unregulated helicopters and plains that fly in to observe traffic patterns.
Please act before more people suffer. |
Donna Diamante | To encourage use of Metro in this very congested area, and to insure the safety of Metro users the pedestrian tunnel under Georia Avenue at Forest Glen Road is essential and should be given priority status by Montgomery County.
suzanne woods |
Fraser Christie | It is absolutely imperative that a solution be found for the safety of pedestrians and drivers.
Jim McVey | This intersection is a disaster. From the vehicle congestion to the short crosswalk signals to the pedestrians exiting Metro and crossing Forest Glen in the middle of the road. Something needs to be done. A tunnel would go a long way in keeping the pedestrians safe.
Tamara Kucik | The safety of our families and the safety of the general public should be the county's top priority. I fully support the Georgia Avenue pedestrian tunnel.

Anonymous | Dallas Ave- Pedestrian safety and congestion would benefit from a tunnel.

Anonymous | My husband crosses this intersection twice a day since he metros to work and back. He has narrowly escaped injury more than once.

Anonymous | I think I am going to start driving to my job in DC or move to DC because I am tired of dodging cars on Ga. Ave! I love the neighborhood but I'd rather have my life.
Martha Morrison | I support this effort. Georgia avenue, especially at this intersection, is extremely dangerous for pedestrians. I don't want my family to be injured getting to or from the metro.

Steven Lang | This is THE worst part of my Metro commute (and I work in Fairfax county). A fatality is unavoidable.

Anonymous | I have lived just east along Sligo Creek since 2003, the situation on Forest Glen has grown worse. The straight and turn option coming from the west was a ridiculous solution since there is hardly a merge area on the other side of Georgia causing cars to scramble for position once they cross Georgia. Unrelated but I also recommend bumps or other speed controls on Dennis Ave, it has become a speedway during the rush I think in part due to the mess on Georgia.
