AnonymousPlease make the building of the tunnel accross Georgia Ave a priority. We have family who live there and we are concerned about the safety of our grandchildren.
Karen & Allen HouserWe are already in a mess because of overbuilding and too much congestion. In addition to the tunnel, a moratorium on building within 5 miles of Forest Glen Road and Georgia Avenue is what's needed. But I doubt if the political will (read INTELLIGENCE) is out there. Greed rules --- as usual.
Pam TraxelAs a daily Metro commuter, I have been nearly hit by several cars crossing Georgia Avenue. I feel that this tunnel is a necessity.

AnonymousIf the development of townhomes above the Forest Glen Metro Station is going to happen, then it is up to our elected officials (if they wish to REMAIN our elected officials) to see to it that: 1) A tunnel is built under Ga. Ave. to decrease the risk of pedestrian injury. 2) That the townhome development does not interfere with bus support of the station. Preferably more bus routes (Y8, Q2) would use the station as a stop, thus further reducing the number of cars and pedestrians having to cross that intersection during their daily commutes. 3) Parking for Metro customers will continue to be supported at Forest Glen with AT LEAST as many spaces as are there now, if not more. 4) The development company that wishes to build these townhomes should be made to shoulder at least part of the cost of the tunnel and the parking facilities.

AnonymousThis is very important, if you convern about the people's safety.
Rose VinhAs a local resident, I urge our representatives to address the safety issues relating to pedestrians and traffic near any metro station.
Leslie Weiner-LeanddoAs a nine year pedestrian commuter through this intersection, I've got all kinds of stories about this intersection. You can't consider using the crosswalks. They're too close to the intersection. So pedestrians exiting the metro are forced to cross Forest Glen in between cars stopped for the light and the cars don't always stop. Under those circumstandes, a minor fender bender at that light could critically injure such a pedestrian. Also, pedestrians crossing Georgia Avenue, heading to the metro, can't see the oncoming traffic traveling north because of a hill in the road. The County changes the traffic pattern regularly so just when you think you got it down, it changes. There is not adequate time for pedestrians to cross. During the winter, the sidewalks are very slippery; I've slid from the sidewalk onto Georgia Avenue several times over the years. You get the picture. I'm surprised someone hasn't thrown a lawsuit against the County for allowing such an unsafe intersection. It won't be me. I'm no longer a pedestrian commuter through this intersection but I worry a lot about those who are. I would never let my kids cross Georgia Avenue as it is now.
AnonymousI never take Metro anymore: it's way too dangerous to walk and pointless to drive because there are no parking spaces. My kids are not allowed to walk to the Metro either. Something needs to be done!

Alan PeregoyI cross at Georgia North and Forest Glen West to get to Metro daily. Almost every day I witness cars running the light southbound on Georgia especially. Also Georgia cars turn west onto Forest Glen at high speed w/o regard to pedeistrians in the crosswalk, and the same goes for eastbound Forest Glen cars turning south on Georgia to get on the beltway. I have almost been hit at each of these areas several times. Build it please!
Anne AudetI also strongly oppose the development of more townhomes. The area is already overly congested.
AnonymousWake up elected officials! Build it now! We are tired of your stone walling us on this issue. Build it now or we will elect representatives who will. The whole community is watching...
Paul LazarAdditional related issue is to put medians back onto Georgia below beltway in Montgomery Hills.

AnonymousThe tunnel is a must. I used to live in the Forest Glen area and frequently walked to the metro. I never felt safe crossing that intersection...even inside the crosswalk and with a clear "walk" signal. Townhouses are NOT needed...a tunnel is. Make this your priority, PLEASE!
AnonymousThe County Council should be promoting the use of public transportation, not discouraging it due to safety concerns. Please build the Forest Glen pedestrian tunnel and protect county residents!
Rakesh BrennigA tunnel would be a logical addition to the large bike just built. Right now the bike ramp just encourages more people to attempt a crossing of Georgia. I also think the businesses near the 16th street intersection would have increased use.
Thomas GilgunnThe intersection is very dangerous. Assuming that drivers obey the traffic lights, pedestrians only get 19 seconds to cross six lanes of Georgia Ave. We need a tunnel.

Cynthia Ross-ZenickMy husband crosses this intersection to get to the metro to go to work and I worry about it every day. I refuse to cross with my two children and drive the short distance to the metro station. We need this tunnel!!!!
Joe DavidsonThe crosswalks at Georgia and Forest Glen are there, not to protect pedestrians, but to set them up.
Cherrie WebbWe need increased safety for our friends, family, and neighbors at one of the busiest and dangerous intersections in the county.
AnonymousMy high school-aged son takes the Metro to and from school, where he gets off at Union Station in the heart of DC. I have to say that I worry for his safety crossing Georgia as much as I do him crossing the busy, congested streets in the District. It's scary enough to drive through this intersection, but to walk through it you feel as if you're more likely to see or be a part of an accident than not. Our community needs this tunnel desperately and before more people are injured or killed.

Elizabeth RoweI have lived here for 32 years and am now fearful to take the metro because it involves crossing Georgia Ave. I have a neighbor down the street whose wife was killed crossing Georgia Ave about 11 yrs ago.

oliver paganon the morning of jan. 31, 2001 my wife marie was crossing georgia ave. at the intersection at forest glenn rd. she was struck by a car running the red light. she was seriously injured. the driver testified that he was looking at a map and did not even see her. when he heard the loud thump he said he had thought he hit a large animal.

Ted MartinThis is long overdue.
Duncan McHalePedestrian and automobile traffic can't be mixed safely. The intersection at Georgia Avenue and Forest Glenn Road, right next to the Beltway exits, is appallingly unsafe for pedestrians. The only way to ensure the safety of pedestrians at this intersection is to physically separate them by building a bridge or a tunnel.
Jed MelineAlso opposed to developing the parking lot into townhomes
