| 140 | Anonymous | Crocodiles are a top predator and as such, it is critical to maintain their numbers if we are to maintain healthy ecosystems. Lessons from hisotry clearly demonstrate that these animals are susceptible to overexploitation by humans. It is unacceptable to allow game hunting of native apex predators such as crocodiles in Australia. No matter how low the quota initially, the NT government would be opening the flood gates to lobbying pressure for increasingly higher quotas from entrepreneurs who stand to benefit financially at the cost of the environment. Game Hunting regualtions are also unenforceable nature as game hunting will often occur in remote areas. The NT government cannot guarantee that only 25 animals will be taken per year unless they set up observer programs- it is unlikely that this would occur. No gamehunting of crocodiles, of any description should be allowed by the Northern Territory Government. |
