9 Robert MartinezThis petition is a great start to reducing the number of people we have behind bars. More importanly it will provide a vehicle toward facilitating the successful re-entry of felons into our society so that they can become good citizens again at some point in their lives.
10 Elena MartinezLooking into issues like this is long overdue and our current system needs to be re-evaluated.

24 Rev. Peter YoungPYHIT ( Peter Young Housing Industries & treatment ) strongly endorses The CURENY platform in all its aspects. CURENY is doing a wonderful job to help make certain that inmates do not recidivate, PYHIT endorses this idea fully. We strongly urge you to seriousily consider the CURENY platform.
25 Lynn JenningsWill there ever be a change in NY State, I have not seen very much so far. Spitser crushed the Class Action by Isseks, what court will over ride the governor? Its time for the courts to open up their eyes, especially when it comes to Parole Issues, they never follow the 259 Laws, nor NYCRR. Changes need to be made.

33 Megan E MedinaIt is time to stop promoting and funding legislation and programs proven to be ineffective and burdonsome to taxpayers. Failure cannot be institutionalized and accepted as status quo. I challenge you to get informed, spend time with Corrections Officers, visit their place of work and read the research. Take appropriate action within your span of responsibility and control.
34 Patricia HughesChildren of incarcerated persons are at risk, and have a higher probability of emotional distress, failure in school, and conflict with the law. Counteracting this exposure, investment in preserving strong family bonds can reduce the probabilities of later youth-breakdowns, drug use, crime and incarceration costs. Strong family ties also encourage rehabilitation and help to reduce recidivism of the parents who are incarcerated. Communities then benefit from improved public safety, and families are better able to contribute and prosper, when incarcerated persons return to communities with strong family bonds. It is therefore an obligation to take opportunities to strengthen family bonds, avoid family breakdown and help to save these children. I THEREFORE URGE YOU TO SUPPORT THE FOLLOWING: Extend the missions of the NYS Department of Correctional Services and the NYS Office of Children and Family Services, to partner with family members of incarcerated persons for the preservation and strengthening of family bonds, including, but not limited to the following. Establish and encourage participation, of incarcerated persons and their families, in responsible parenting programs and the avoidance of domestic violence. Emphasize job oriented training for incarcerated persons that will enable economic support of family. Further facilitate family visiting. Assign incarcerated persons to prisons located as close as possible to their families. Insure respect and support, by all corrections personnel, for visiting family members. Provide supportive and instructive children’s facilities in all visiting areas. Provide in-prison Family Reunion Programs at all major correctional facilities. Facilitate and fund family-connection programs, such as low-cost telephone services, and use of email (as in Federal prisons) for family dialog. Support professional counseling of families, including children, in distress. Allow scheduled family counseling, including incarcerated persons, prior to release, with a family-provided clinical psychologist.

37 Lynn JenningsThere needs to be a lot of things changed in the NY System, especially enforcing Parole Procedures on 259-I, and enforcing Parole to use 9 NY codes/rules/and regulations. They don't and I doubt they ever will. This is just my major beef, of course every thing else also needs to be addressed.

45 Maxine BoromThese are common-sense suggestions, and would cost next to nothing to implement. In addition, it might be possible to cncourage family visits by providing inexpensive transportation to visitors.

48 Lawrence H. MamiyaTo my legislators, and members of NY DOCS and NY DParole: I urge you to support the Restorative Justice platform of CURE-NY. It is the best way to cut recidivism and intergenerational prison populations.
