The platform of the Coalition for Rehabilitation and Reentry calls for a major reorientation of NYS criminal justice toward a more restorative process. Its twelve parts are: Expanded pre-trial services, Fair representation, Job-oriented education, Drug law reform, Treatment and transformation, Prison health services, Merit time, Parole policy and practice, Work release, Reentry support, Family services, and Long-termers/lifers programs.

I support this platform, and urge its adoption by the NYS legislature, NYS Department of Correctional Services, and NYS Department of Parole.

The platform of the Coalition for Rehabilitation and Reentry was spearheaded by CURE-NY, the New York chapter of International CURE, a non-profit advocacy organization for criminal justice reform. The platform was developed in cooperation with 33 other advocacy organizations, and was finalized at a gathering of these 33 on September 25, 2007 in Menands, NY
